I am very leery of any fruit in beer, but I love this stuff! The blood orange pops out on the palate, but quickly fades. Then the peppercorn very subtly tingles the palate; it, too, is not overdone. Doesn’t taste like any barleywine I have had . . . doesn’t taste like any other beer I have had. superspak (5888) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - DEC 1, 2012
12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled 4/20/2012. Pours hazy reddish orange color with a small 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lacing cap that lingers. Slight spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of huge orange, orange zest, orange rind, grapefruit, peppercorn, caramel, coriander, bread, floral, grass, earth, and herbal. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity; with a huge citrus presence as expected. Taste of big orange, orange zest, caramel, grapefruit, orange rind, coriander, peppercorn, floral, grass, earth, and herbal. Light citrus rind tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of orange, citrus rind, grapefruit, peppercorn, coriander, caramel, toast, floral, earth, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic citrus and peppery flavor balance with nice complexity; zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent wheatwine! Great flavor complexity and balance; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering. Headbanger (4020) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUL 28, 2009
5oz sample at brewery 7/2/09-Pours an amber body with no head. Aroma of sweetness. Taste of malt, sweetness, citrus, hops, and alcohol. This is a full bodied brew which is well balanced and has some nice flavors. Great brew. masonjer (609) - Holt, Michigan, USA - AUG 16, 2009
really glad I got to try this before it kicked. On tap at the brewery. Poured a deep orange brown with a small tan head. Aroma was sharp citrus, sweet malt, and some bitter hop notes. Taste was much the same, big full malt throughout, some spice, sharp citrus zest, bitter grapefruit and some lingering sweetness. This was pretty smooth I thought and hid the alcohol very well. Really nice job here. AgentSteve (1647) - SF Bay Area, California, USA - MAY 11, 2010
Pours dark ruddy brow with a layer of a cream colored head. Nice citrus nose with a touch of feet, but oddly not in a bad way. Flavor is same with a touch of vinous fruit. Medium full mouthfeel.

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2016 Bottle. Pours a brownish burgundy with a very small light wooden brown head. Aroma has a combination of caramel and blood orange with a slight undertone of pepper. Flavor begins sweet with caramel but the finish brings a blood orange note that helps balance out the flavor nicely. There was a hint of spice and some coriander in the finish nash7624 (18) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - JUL 13, 2010
12oz pour from bottle. Dark orange/brown almost red body with minimal head. Lots going on in the nose: orange, candy, alcohol, spicy, caramel, a little grassy...... Flavor equally complex with more orange, floral hops, sweet malt, spicy pepper.... Mouthfeel is a little shallow in my opinion. Initially sweet malt and orange, then finishing with slight pepper bite and perfectly balanced bitterness. Overall an outstanding and terrifically complex wheat wine. Pours a deep red with a good head. The aroma is hops and oranges with some grapefruit. The blood orange flavor is pretty strong and the beer is plenty bitter with lots of citrus rind. fear025 (213) - Downers Grove, Illinois, USA - SEP 8, 2010
Aroma:Sweet orange, sweet malt, sweet hops in the nose.
Appearance:Dark honey color, very little head, low retention, low lacing.
Taste:Lots of orange, some grapefruit rind in the foretaste. Very sweet. In the midtaste, the hops come through a little more. The hops are all citrus. The slight orange tang continues through the aftertaste.
Palate:Light to medium body, a little bit abrasive on the back of my throat as I drink.
Overall:This is an incredible and complex wheatwine with amazing orange flavors. beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - SEP 19, 2010
Sampled at GABF on 9/17/2010. This barleywine pours a medium brown color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, caramel, oranges and sweet. Medium bodied Barleywine/wheatwine. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet, lots of oranges. The hops are herbal. Nice balance. A strange combination of flavors for sure, but somehow they work well together. Lots of orange rind flavor at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
