Pours light clear orange, finger white head.
Smell big sweet tropical fruit, orange peel, juicy
Taste mild, very fruity, almost tangy, no real heat or wheatwine qualities, like an triple ipa
Lighter body for a wheat wine, insanely drinkable
Very interesting, I like it a lot 574deadzone (1419) - North Central, Indiana, USA - JUN 14, 2014
Heck yes, awesome gift. Pours a hazy orange golden with a thinner eggshell head that settles to a ring and leaves some spotty lace. Nose is a blast of citrus like fresh-squeezed juice, sweet orange, tart grapefruit, some zesty spice and florals, sweet nectar, some underlying coconut. Fairly sweet, somewhat tart, quite bitter. Medium to full bodied, oily, softer carb, with a drying toasty yet tart and bitter finish accentuated by some alcohol warmth. A really cool brew, drinks more like a DIPA than a barleywine. It’s not thick or hefty, definitely more juicy, oily, and zesty. JMFG (1587) - Florida, USA - JUN 2, 2009
Courtesy northernbrews via GoT. Chestnut color, thin broken white head. Great aroma - toasted malt, orange, strong earthy hops, very aromatic and unique. Taste is robust, sweet malts, spices up front. The citrus and peppercorn elements meld nicely and leave a piquant sting on the palate. A beer that occupies all your senses while drinking it. Growler gratefully shared by B to the V to the C; pours dark brown with foamy tan/head head; aromas just ooze out of this one; dank fruit, cinnamon, an almost belgian yeasty/IPA kind of note with the hops, lemons, spice and orange; nose is kind of everywhere, but somehow works out; texture is soft and quite full bodied with so much flavor; everything seems so fresh and fruity; tons of spice, caramel, sugar, oranges; with so much going on, it doesn’t seem much like a wheat wine, which is more than fine with me; i’m a total Short’s fanboy and this one was another knockout bvc (1242) - Washington, USA - JUN 7, 2009
!0th rating of this one, lets make it official. Growler shared on the rooftop of riversideAK’s girlfriends place with some cool dudes on a great afternoon. Pours a cloudy orangish/amber/brown color with a very nice slightly off white head. As others have noted, the nose on this one god damn amazing! Citrusy fruit, resiny hops, and spice all with perfect yeasty malt backing. The orange and hops really jump out in front as, but the malt and spices show up mid palate with a good amount of hops on the end. I would agree that this one isn’t like any other wheat wine, or beer for that matter, that I have had. I can’t wait to try the next Short’s experiment.

Shared by Sleestack on the RBSG Friday Bus. Thanks, Man! This is great. Beautiful orange-brown color with just a little lace. Huge, spicy, pepper and orange aroma with wheat. It’s tart, with great orange. You can really taste the pepper. Smooth, a beautiful beer. Love it! demitriustown (1192) - Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA - AUG 27, 2010
12 oz bottle: Aroma is tart citrus, deep dark fruit like raisins and prunes, malt, really hoppy as well with a pungent hop charcteristic poking through the back end. Appearance is really dark orange almost brown really cloudy with a off white to tanish orange head. Taste is wonderful, tart blood orange, hops by the load, then into prune and dark fruit, melding into a tingleing bed off goodness. There is just something about this beer that I just like. SOme people might not, but it’s just really good for my tastes. CheerS1 dimenhetfield (2486) - , Florida, USA - AUG 19, 2011
12oz bottle poured into snifter. Reading the label: "225lbs of blood oranges" ummm can’t go wrong there. The aroma definitely has the orange floral zest but the flavor really blew me away. It took me right back to childhood and drinking my OJ with pulp in it. The orange flavor was that strong. The pepper corns made the finish a little bit spicy which was was. This is one awesome beer. blackflag321 (689) - Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAY 20, 2012
I am very leery of any fruit in beer, but I love this stuff! The blood orange pops out on the palate, but quickly fades. Then the peppercorn very subtly tingles the palate; it, too, is not overdone. Doesn’t taste like any barleywine I have had . . . doesn’t taste like any other beer I have had. superspak (5597) - Michigan, USA - DEC 1, 2012
12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled 4/20/2012. Pours hazy reddish orange color with a small 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lacing cap that lingers. Slight spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of huge orange, orange zest, orange rind, grapefruit, peppercorn, caramel, coriander, bread, floral, grass, earth, and herbal. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity; with a huge citrus presence as expected. Taste of big orange, orange zest, caramel, grapefruit, orange rind, coriander, peppercorn, floral, grass, earth, and herbal. Light citrus rind tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of orange, citrus rind, grapefruit, peppercorn, coriander, caramel, toast, floral, earth, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic citrus and peppery flavor balance with nice complexity; zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent wheatwine! Great flavor complexity and balance; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.
