COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
• Modest essential benevolence of humanity
• Beer Type: Double Red Ale

Aorta Ale is a double red ale that indicates an intensity of flavor simply by its dark reddish-brown appearance. Subtle aromas of candy, brown sugar, and toasted malt are released from the depths of this full bodied beast. Raisins, figs, and burnt caramel are among the sweeter and more forward flavors. It finishes with a roasted cocoa like bitterness, which is magnified by the high alpha hops.

superspak (5300) - Michigan, USA - JAN 21, 2017
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/2/2016. Pours hazy deep reddish/orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, raisin, plum, fig, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/roast, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops, fruity yeast, and dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, raisin, plum, fig, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/roast, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, raisin, plum, fig, citrus rind, pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness/roast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops, fruity yeast, and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/sticky/resinous, and lightly slick balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden, a mild warmth lingering after the finish for 9.6%. Overall this is an awesome imperial red ale! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops, fruity yeast, and dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV; despite the moderately strong bitterness and increasing resin/rindy dryness. Nicely juicy feeling on hops and yeast fruitiness. A really delicious offering.

smroush (256) - Michigan, USA - JAN 20, 2017
Aromas are malty - bread, candy sugar, a bit of dried fruit, caramel; but also a good bitter backbone. A touch of fruitiness also, though I am having a hard time pinning down the fruit - mango, apricot? Color is an attractive reddish brown, not quite a ruby red, with a medium light tan head. Taste is a bit sweet, but with a fair amount of balancing bitterness. Medium body; texture a bit oily; carbonation is average; finish is fairly long, opening with candy sugar and fruit and ending in the bitterness. Overall a pretty good beer; reasonably balanced between a variety of malt flavors and the hop bitterness; some complexity with a fairly wide variety of flavors.

Bottle: Ruby-red color with hints of copper... Indigo, too? Off-white cap with decent retention & generous lacing. Aroma is sweet & malty with juicy citrus fruits; tangerine, melon, raisins, light plum... Strange combo but it’s nice. Light pine & resinous hop oil, too. Caramel, toasted malt lingers front to back. Sip is a little boozy but balanced decently enough with the big malt bill. You get the "light" fruit flavors from the hops (citrus, tangerine, grapefruit) & the "darker" fruits from the deep malt (mild candied raisins, plums, red grape). Hops rule the finish, though; pungent, oily, resinous, & even a little ashy. Caramel malt strength grows with warmth, giving a nice sugary graham cracker aftertaste. Not a huge red ale fan but I actually enjoyed this one.
