Very deep mahogany, average clarity and little head. Average carbonation, pucker mouthfeel that’s fairly oily, very crisp clean finish. Aroma has some ice cream-y lactose, sweet grass, sour berries and some dark fruits like plum. Flavors of rich fairly bold coffee, floral hops, a bit of leather, plum and fig, toffee. Really smooth easy going old ale.

Another from Shorts. This one pours a dark brown color tinted slightly red. Aroma is packed with sweet red apples. A dark caramel flavor with more apples and other fruits. Fig makes a big presence along with some other dark fruits. Good stuff. Bourbon version was better that I had at the brewery. But a good take on the style by Shorts. Might be nice to sit on some for a while.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with an off white head. Caramel and malt with a touch of earthy sourness in the aroma and taste.

out of the 12 oz bottle, it’s a dark viscous liquid. murky, woody brown color with a thin ring of light tan head; very few bubbles. sweet dark-and-dried fruits dominate, and other notes of red wine and molasses. overall a sweet brew with just a hint of greenish hops to offer a little contrast to the residual sugars. a nice brew, most enjoyable on a cold night.

Bottle: Burnt caramel color, nearly opaque. Looming, long-lasting ecru cap on top. Aroma of heavy fruit - apples, plums, raisins, figs - all coated in a bath of caramelized brown sugar & faint molasses. Lots of apparent, residual sweetness with a strong fruity essence leaning towards the dark side. Flavor is strongly sweet as well. Caramel apple, candied prunes, brown sugar coated dates, laced with anise, molasses, & sprinkled with some extra sugar for good measure. Toffee & dark fruit finish, sticky & residual. Despite the exceedingly high sweetness, I do enjoy the flavors more than I usually do for these types of beers. Not bad. Bourbon version is better, however.

Bottle pour to shaker. Cola-like color. Hints of malty vanilla, toffee and booziness, but thin finish.

UPDATED: JAN 10, 2016 12 oz bottle shared with ebone1988. Dumpster Box No. 1. The pour is a ruby-tinted brown with a larger kaki colored head and a lingeringly soapy lace. The aroma is a little strange. There is a light metallic to it. It’s sweet and malty. Lots of molasses present as well. It’s bit too bad, but it’s really basic. The flavor is the same. Lots more metallic. Malts are bready, and the sweetness is present but light. The mouth feel is thin and light with a light carbonation and a quick fading sweet molasses finish. Decent, but really thin.
