Beard of Zeus is a super hoppy India style Pale Lager. We heavily hopped the final runnings of a Peaches and Créme batch with Zeus hops and then lagered it. Small amounts of bitter orange peel was added to provide subtle sweet flavors to the beer and enhance the aromas of the Zeus hops.

superspak (6228) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - JUN 9, 2013
12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 5/3/2013. Pours slightly hazy golden amber color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass; with some moderate streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon zest, orange zest, grapefruit, tangerine, orange rind, floral, pine, grass, light honey, and floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop and orange rind notes; with a fair amount of malt balance and good strength. Taste of lemon, orange rind, orange zest, tangerine, floral, pine, grapefruit, grass, light honey, and floral earthiness. Good amount of earthy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, citrus rind, floral, pine, grass, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of hop and orange rind flavors; with a light malt balance and light lingering bitterness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a crisp and very sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with no warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice session IPL. All around nice balance and complexity of hop and rind flavors; with plenty of flavor for 4.5% and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle, smells like a dull IPA. Looks is slightly hay like with a bit of haze. Big dill IPA bordering on imperial IPA flavors. What else can be said? Why do lagers now have to also taste like IPA? Don’t we have enough of these fricken IPA style beers? WTF? Not impressed. Should have passed on this bottle. I probably needed one more to make a sixer and that’s how I got this IPA. Yes, I said IPA, that’s what it is my ratebeerian friend. #cheapIPA If you want eye pee aye, try this, you’ll like it.

Bottle from Siciliano’s. Pours golden with a thin white head. Leaves some lacing in the glass. A bit of orange on the nose. There’s a hint of floral on the tongue. Finishes clean. Solid but nothing spectacular.

Tap. Golden with small head. Very hoppy lager. Extremely bitter finish and light citrus.

burg326 (5630) - Florida, USA - NOV 5, 2014
Poured a light cloudy orange color with aromas of bread malts, light coriander, some orange peel and light citrus. Flavors are bread and oranges, light hop presence, bitter aftertaste, not the best ipl on the market but decent.

12oz bottle in a stemless bulb. Pours golden with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of a lot of floral and citrusy hops plus light orange and a nice caramel/pale maltiness. Flavor really good with a nice citrus component. Average texture. A good beer.

On draft at GABF 2012. Pours a hazy orange with a white head. Nose is a nice light malt with a bit of citrus and a big punch of Zythos bitterness and grassiness. Flavor is similar with citrus up front and a big hop punch. The finish is somewhat abrasive, but the initial flavor is nice. Medium in body and interesting at first.

muzzlehatch (4975) - Beloit, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 10, 2016
12 ounce bottle from Everett’s in South Beloit, IL, drunk a few minutes out of the fridge in a pint glass. A moderate frothy snow-white head tops the pale, hazy gold body....big tropical fruit notes, apricots and oranges dominating a zesty nose, also some pungent resinous touches; not much in the way of cereal/grain noticeable...on the tongue there is a little bit more of that pale malt character in evidence, enough so that it feels like a lager anyway, but the strong hop bitterness and pungency and overripe fruitiness compete with those malts for attention throughout...finish is a little more dry, bitter, a touch metallic...very full and juicy, rather strongly carbonated. There’s an odd bit of funk/farminess here that doesn’t quite work for me in a lower gravity lager like this and keeps this from being as enjoyable as it could be for me, but overall it’s not bad, certainly.

LilBeerDoctor (4236) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 19, 2016
Bottle. Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a thin white head. Aroma of citrus, orange peel, tropical fruits, apricot. Flavor of citrus fruits, bitter hop resin, lemon, fruity hops, with bitterness in the finish. Fruity and bitter from the hops. Light palate, easy drinking. Very pleasant. 7/4/8/4/15 (3.8/5)
