Bottle... Pours dark brown with a small, creamy, beige head. The nose features dark chocolate and chai tea. Medium-bodied with jazzy carbonation. The flavor is just bitter and burnt. Finishes acutely bitter as well. If you’re gonna hop the Hell out of a beer, call it “Black Hops” not “Black Chai.” I was both expecting and hoping for something different. Less bitter and more spicy. arminjewell (9720) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - SEP 17, 2015
Pour on tap at Old Chicago, dark black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of caramel, cinnamon, clove, vanilla, some tea, hints of roast. Taste was a mix of cinnamon, coriander, orange peel, roast, vanilla, touch of earth, chocolate, coffee, finishing slightly sweet, slightly spicy. Mark_Eck (1998) - - JUL 17, 2015
Bottle. Pours black. Aroma and taste are creamy spices and some roastiness. bwa5879 (956) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAR 2, 2015
Deep brown thin pour with half inch brown head. Dodger carbonation, thicker creamy mouthfeel, finishes dry. Aroma of black tea, cream, allspice, a bit light. Flavor of malty chocolate, some tea that’s bitter, nutmeg and allspice blend with the tea to make a bitter chai flavor, a bit chalky. Decent and tastes like chai. Near black body with a thick beige head. Roasted malt, chocolate, spruce, how was your spice, tea leaves, earth. Smoke and char with chai tea. Mild to moderate sweetness. Bitter, ashy smoke in the finish. Interesting and creative, as expected with Short’s. Fun to try once.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2015 Gorgeous absolutely gorgeous! Smells nice with a hint of spices, taste changes throughout, catch some chocolate, tea, and spices not too bad first I?ve tried of its style still not too bad for something that?s not my cup of tea! milewide (2304) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - FEB 12, 2015
Bottle. Spices win over roast... but some roast background. Deep black color, and outstanding body! chucklemation (1747) - Royal Oak, Michigan, USA - FEB 9, 2015
Pours a dark brown with a foamy, long-lasting tan head. Aroma is chocolate and roast, with a combination of chai tea that doesn’t blend so well. Flavor is stronger on the chai tea and roast, along with some bitterness. Seems more like a chai and porter than a black ipa. Different, but tastes pretty good. Feel like this is a little underrated. The chai really comes through on this one. Heavy mouthfeel with robust flavors. Spicey, roasty, nutty and pretty enjoyable. ColovianTrader (464) - - JAN 31, 2015
Toasted malts, nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar toffee and nuts. Slightly herbal finish. Medium bodied, creamy and smooth.
