COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Cherry Porter is made using local Northern Michigan sweet black cherries, eight different malts, and three varieties of hops. The combination of ingredients provides the deep radiant flavor profile and creates a dark opaque color. The beer leaves a slight purple lace from the fruit puree and finishes with flavors of roasted chocolate and pleasurable black cherry.

Black Cherry Porter is one of the oldest beers in our portfolio. It was brewed for the first time on July 29, 2004 as the 35th batch of beer ever brewed at Short’s.

12oz bottle, thanks to Umich03jm. Black color. Good brown head. Awesome lace. Pretty great-looking. Nice chocolate flavor, and good big black cherry. Very well blended. Moderate bitter, little sweet (tart) taste. Some roasty malts. Pretty sure I prefer this over Bells’ cherry porter. More my style. I feel like the cherry is bigger and tastier, here. Very special stuff

Draft to pint. Nice variation on the classic porter taste; the black cherry makes it different, but not so much that it is a turn-off. Yes, flavor does come around as it warms up. It was served to me chllled, but it should be served only slightly chilled.

Great cherry aroma with some light coffee ground. Flavor follows but more heavy on the coffee grounds which isn’t quite as pleasant.

Pours dark with brown head like a stout. Black cherry is subtle in the aroma but sweet and sour in the taste.

Shared 355 ml bottle at Cardinaal. Pitch black with a small light brown film that laves good lacing. Butter cherry and roasted malts on the nose. Fruity roasted, sour and light meaty mouth. Full body. Dry tongue.

Looking for a dessert beer? Small head. Slightly heavy palate. Chocolate and cherries. Sweet, but not over powering. Great for Christmas, after dinner.

Bottle as an extra from Mike, thanks man! Pour is a deep, dark brown, with a ring of mocha head that sits around the edge, a bit of a red-ish tinge when viewed side on. Pretty looking beer! Aroma is milk caramel, milk chocolate, LOTS sweet caramel malts, some ill-defined dark fruit. I really don’t get a ton of cherry here, but more a nice sweet porter with a touch of fruit. Tastes isn’t quite so nice, and really gets muddled in sweet malt, chocolate, fruit, toffee, vanilla, and the like. Finishes too sweet for me. Not a terrible brew, would be a bit nicer with a crisper finish and perhaps a bit dryer. Thanks again Mike!

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip. Reddish brown pour with almost no head. Nose is cherries, taste follows with some bitter chocolate. Medium mouthfeel. Just ok.

355ml bottle. Pours dark, some tan head, vanishing, flat carbonation, oily texture. Medium to light body, quite watered down. Taste is roasty, with strong cherries notes, quite balanced. Enjoyable.

On tap at Hopcat. Pours black with a reddish brown head that sticks around. Aroma is cherry and dark fruit with a good amount of roastiness as well. Flavor matches the aroma with a lot of cherry and dark fruit, and a great roasted flavor that blends so well with the cherry. This was definitely the highlight of my trip to Hopcat. Wish I would have picked up some bottles while in Michigan.
