COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Cherry Porter is made using local Northern Michigan sweet black cherries, eight different malts, and three varieties of hops. The combination of ingredients provides the deep radiant flavor profile and creates a dark opaque color. The beer leaves a slight purple lace from the fruit puree and finishes with flavors of roasted chocolate and pleasurable black cherry.

Black Cherry Porter is one of the oldest beers in our portfolio. It was brewed for the first time on July 29, 2004 as the 35th batch of beer ever brewed at Short’s.

Draft to pint. Nice variation on the classic porter taste; the black cherry makes it different, but not so much that it is a turn-off. Yes, flavor does come around as it warms up. It was served to me chllled, but it should be served only slightly chilled.

Bottle to snifter. Pours nearly black with minimal head. Mosebis dried cherries with light papery oxidation. Tate is lightly tart, cherry skin tannin and dark coffee acidity. Coupled with a thin but not watery mouthfeel. Beer feels a bit tired and worn, lack of CO2 doesn’t help it at all. Meh.

Smell of cacao, malt, hop, coffee. Drink from bottle. Taste smooth of coffee, malt, hint of cherry. Almost full body, strong with bitterness and carbonate. Good porter for the price.

2015 bottle. Black pour with a cola head. Chocolate pudding, cherry cola, powdered cocoa, toasted malts, creamy and fairly smooth with an underdone of cherry pit that doesn’t overwhelm. Moderate carbonation and body, dry on finish and easy to drink.

Tap at Clubhouse BFD. Pours black, tan head. Aroma is lots of roasted malt, chocolate. Slight cherry but minimal in the nose. I would not be able to tell if not told. Flavor is chocolate, roasted malt, lots of tart black cherry. Wow, that’s prominent. Not bad! Well balanced. But a little sweet for me. I think they did a good job in what they were going for.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark reddish black pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of dark fruit, caramel, roast, some slight fruity berry notes, hints of sweet sugars as well. Taste was a mix of berry, cherry, some dark fruit, cocoa, roast, touch of sugars, finishing sweet, slightly bitter.

Draft to taster. Looks good; a translucent darker cherry cola with. Foamy dark beige head. Smells malty with notes of cherry alongside mild chocolate and toast. Tastes like it smells with a fairly bitter medium-bodied mouthfeel. Some hops on the tongue as well. Solid, but a little cherry-forward for my preferences.

chucklemation (1629) - Royal Oak, Michigan, USA - DEC 9, 2015
Pours a jet black with a thick, long-lasting tan head. Aroma is chocolate, roast, and subtle cherry. Flavor is roast, bitter chocolate, and just enough cherry to give it some character. Smooth body. Very enjoyable.

On tap at Crunchy's. Wonderful. Cherry aroma with just enough fruit flavor that cuts through. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle. Mild aroma of chocolate and tart. The the flavor is malty with notes of tart black cherries with a small amount of chocolate. Some tannin notes. Interesting and the black cherry goes well with the rich malts.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/12/2015. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark brown head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, black cherry, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, floral, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of roast/bready malt, cherries, and moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, black cherry, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, floral and roasted earthiness. Moderate amount of herbal/roasted bitterness and light fruit tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cherry, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt, cherries, and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a nice roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness after the finish from roasted bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent fruited porter. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt, cherries, and moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
