COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
• The intrinsic celebration of beer and the giant red berry cloaked within piper nigrum, apium graveolens dulce, armoracia rusticana, and anethum graveolens
• Beer Type: Specialty Beer fermented with Roma tomatoes and spiced with tellicherry peppercorns, celery seed, fresh horseradish and dill

Bloody Beer is a lighter bodied beer with an appealing ruby red glow. Fermented with Roma tomatoes, and spiced with dill, horseradish, peppercorns and celery seed, a prominent aroma of spicy tomato juice emits from the beer. The intense initial tomato flavor is followed by a lingering finish that allows each additional ingredient a chance to resonate on the palate. When slightly warm, this 2009 Great American Beer Festival silver medal winner’s magnitude of flavors can be fully appreciated.

Bloody Beer was beer number 8 of 13 from our 2007 Imperial Beer Series and it was the 290 batch of beer ever brewed at Short’s.

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange with a diminished white head. Aroma is spiced and of tomato. Yet on the more spiced note. Light metallic and tomato like flavoured with a mild spiced note. Smooth tomato and slight spiced finish. Not bad and quite different.

Bottled. A hazy orange-amber beer with an off-white head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel, dill, and other spices as well as blood. The flavor is spicy combined with notes of dill, cellery, and tomato.

[email protected], Tampere. A bit reddish orange colour with small beige head. Aroma is tomato, spices, hops and some resin and wood. Totally strange. Flavour is grass, tomatoes and quite a lot of spices. Rather harsh in the flavour. I guess this is probably one of those love or hate beers. I’m closer to the latter...

(Bottle 75 cl) Hazy deep golden with a rough, off-white head. Rather enticing celery aroma - although I actually hate celery.... Medium-bodied, spicy, peppery with celery accents and a discreet whiff of tomato. Dry and bitter finish. Very unusual but still quite drinkable. 311008

Cloudy amber beer. Crisp palate. Instant spicy hit from the pepper and more so from the horse radish and celery. From the mid through to the finish the tomatoes come through. They are rich and not sharp or acidic. Warming afterglow of spice. A remarkable and unique beer. Well balanced in it’s unusual ingredients. Joe Short is a genius!

Tasting at Papsoe
Hazy amber color. It really smells like Bloody Mary: tomato, spices and light celery; I forget that it’s supposed to be beer, the aroma is nice. Some caramel flavor, medium-low sweetness, quite strong hopping, with a good pepper presence. I’m usually against these mixes, but I have to admit that this one is an interesting experience. If it was not so bitter at the end it would be better.

Bottle thanks to Styles. Very interesting beer. Hard to rate, but here it goes. Pours pinkish red. Nose and taste of celery, fresh tomatoes and spiced peppercorn. Almost like drinking cold pasta sauce. Odd beer, but much better than the rating or description suggest.
