Pours dark brown almost black. No head. Roasted spicy and floral hop aroma. Floral hops, roasted malt, and hints of citrus rind. Not much to it. Low carbonation and light body kind of ruined this for me. Maybe a bad batch? bpar73 (1118) - Bellaire, Michigan, USA - NOV 15, 2013
On tap at the brewpub. Floral hop with roasted malt undertones in the taste and aroma. Smooth, not overly bitter finish. Nice DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 26, 2013
4oz on tap at HopCat East Lansing during the Shorts tap takeover. Dark brown slightly reddish color. Thin ring of off-white / tan head. Decent ropes of lace. Oh man, awesome nose. Chocolate, roast, awesome earthy herbal hop. Light spice. Bigger body. Smooth, lightly soft lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Good moderate bitter taste. Piney, chocolate in flavor. Very tasty, awesome black IPA. Shorts does it right. koleminer20 (3597) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - AUG 24, 2013
On draft at HopCat in East Lansing. Pours more of a reddish brown than a black. Thin, thin head. Light lacing. Smells quite hoppy, with subtle roasted undertones. The flavor is very hoppy, so much so that it overwhelms any other potential contributor. The finish is dry, but really thin, leaving a little desire to have the flavor linger. cpetrone84 (1810) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 7, 2013
Pour is dark black with a mostly tight dark tan head. Nose has a light smoke to it, some malt depth with chocolate, and a faint citrusy hop behind. Taste is much smokier, complex malt of caramel and chocolate, hops are light and like the nose citrusy. Not much bitterness, lingering smoke, decent carbonation, lighter body and very smooth.

Bottle (from backlog). Near black pour with a tan/grey head. Big hops and malt aromas. Piney and malty. A well blended beer. Reynolds314 (3450) - Connecticut, USA - MAR 14, 2013
As with most Shorts beers Im not very impressed. Astringent bitterness is the name of the game here. Aspirin and tire rubber accent a piney hoppy beer. lots of charcoal pine and aspirin. Silphium (3199) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - FEB 18, 2013
Bottle. Deep garnet body, thick puffy, dirty tan head. Nose of spicy hops, spruce and pine needles, burnt fall leaves, chocolate, and hints of licorice. Soft body, floral and bitter with tons of tannic pine and spruce; toasty with very light sweetness. Very bitter, tannic finish. Leathery. Very good. 574deadzone (1419) - North Central, Indiana, USA - FEB 16, 2013
On tap at Wheatberry. Awesome brew all around. Pours pitch black with a thicker mocha cap that settles down and leaves some big sticky lacing. Nose involves a healthy dose of pine, earth, coffee and roasted malts, some citrus, spice notes, vanilla, dark cacao and pepper. Nicely bitter with just a light sweetness that hardly peeks through. Medium bodied, prickly, zesty, with a spicy hop finish. Wow. Glad this was on tap. Good stuff. madmitch76 (24807) - , Essex, ENGLAND - FEB 9, 2013

Opaque black - brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Light palate. Semi dry. Mildly roasted dark malts. A little piney hop and a and trace of insipid red berry fruits underneath. Finishes semi dry. An okay black IPA but there are many very good ones around and this is a little underwhelming.
