Hands down, my favorite bourbon barrel beer. The nose is captivating - it’s a pleasure to smell and to drink. Lightly carmeled with deep bourbon tones. arminjewell (9675) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - APR 12, 2015
Pour on tap at Old Chicago, dark brownish red pour with khaki colored head, aroma brought notes of dark fruit, bourbon, wood, coconut, some vanilla, some slight oak into a bit of earth, spice, sweet caramel as well. Taste was sweet bourbon, dark fruit, vanilla, some caramel, slight oak and coconut, finishing sweet. dnstone (3418) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JAN 24, 2015
Bourbony vanilla, coconut, woody aroma. Murky amber color with off-white head. Light bodied but boozy with those vanilla, coconut, and woody characters.with an old ale.

On tap at 2014 GTMW, pours a clear dark brown with a thin white head, the aroma was sweet with caramel and malt with some booze coming through, the flavor was just as sweet with lots of malt and caramel, the bourbon was kind of muted, not bad just sweet. koleminer20 (3599) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - DEC 10, 2014
From notes. This was shared at a tasting put on by @mikem409 on November 7. Pour from a growler. The pour is a medium brown color (almost like a soda) with a thin khaki head and some pretty good lacing. The aroma is pretty decent with the bourbon and then has a strange sweet bit that isn’t really attributed to dark fruits or a caramel like I would expect with an old ale. The flavor is pretty boozy. There is a strong dark fruit and nice vanilla coming through on the flavor backed up with a little light caramel. The mouth feel is pretty thin and slick, with minimal carbonation here and a quick, sweetly boozy aftertaste. Shorts could do better

Draft at hopcat. Pours coca cola brown with a khaki head. Leaves some lacing in the glass. Has a bit of bourbon on the nose. The bourbon’s on the tongue as well but it fades as it goes down. Old ale seems like a strong ale that someone’s discovered in some cellar somewhere. Not bad. mikem409 (2027) - bloomfield, Michigan, USA - NOV 8, 2014
Growler. Pours gold with thin head. Caramel corn aroma. Taste sweet burnt toffee and a bitter finish. Very thin mouth feel ColovianTrader (464) - - AUG 22, 2014
Strong bourbon aroma. Flavors of brown sugar, cider, bourbon, plums and a nice alcohol bite. Very malty but good carbonation helps cut through it. Bacterial (2999) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - AUG 13, 2014
Sample pour at the Great Taste of the Midwest. Full pour towards the end of the day. Big bourbon and malty nose. Brown pour with just a slight head. Big boozy taste. Nice, but kind of a 1 trick pony. bpar73 (1118) - Bellaire, Michigan, USA - AUG 2, 2014
@ Short’s Fest. Brown pour with a white head. Toffee, vanilla and plenty of bourbon in the aroma and taste.
