Opaque black - brown beer, good pale tan head. Lovely nose of oak and cherry. Palate is crispy and a little dry. Surprisingly tart cherry. Mild dark malts. The cherry tartness is kept in check by the oaky bourbon. Mild minerals before the dry finish. Interesting and tasty.
Draft at Short’s. Deep murky brown-black body, no head. Nose of buttery oak, bourbon, and alcohol, strong with muted roast and musty cherries. Oaky body with bourbon largely dominating the base beer, which provides elements of roasted malts, coffee, and mostly faded cherry tartness. Relatively dry, soft and chocolaty in the finish with strong lingering bourbon notes. Subtle in its own way. Very good beer. bpar73 (1155) - Bellaire, Michigan, USA - AUG 24, 2012
Draft at the brewpub. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of bourbon and black cherries. Smoky bourbon taste with cherry and malt overtones. A nice balance between the cherry and the bourbon.
Overall enjoyable sipping brew. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - AUG 13, 2012
Draft pour on tap at GTMW 2012 (Madison, WI). Pours a richer deep blackish hue, touches of ruby on the edge and bottom. Frothy light brown head dies to a mellow ring, laces ok. Aromas are black cherry, toffee, mellow barrel. A gentle heat, spirit, and vanilla. Mellow cherry, cocoa, and roast. Initial is medium bodied, tart and sweet dark cherries, touches of cocoa, a touch thinned. Mellow barrel. Vanilla, black cherry, and some roast. Vanilla, spirit, and roast. Cocoa, some toffee, coffee. Gets a bit more mellow, black cherry and mellow barrel flavor. Vanilla, oak. Finish is cherry, a bit tart and tangy. Fun. Seems like they got it figured out this batch (as last year’s ratings look completely different) jtclockwork (16855) - , New Jersey, USA - APR 14, 2011
Handbottle thanks to northernbrews! Pours black tan head. Nose of tart cherry, chocolate cream pie and light bourbon barrel. Taste of cherry juice, roast chocolate malt and bourbon barrel. Some butteriness. Possible diacetyl, but probably just the cherry clashing with the barrel treatment. Otherwise, quite good.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2011 1/15/11. Shared at the Sea Bass tasting! This was a hand-bottle from a growler that had been opened once... hope I can try it again some day! Sweaty cheese aroma with a horrible sour cheese flavor. Nasty! Probably infected. Tmoney99 (14752) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 24, 2010

Draft sample at brewery 11/23/10 Pours black with an incredibly small tan head. Aroma of Black Cherry. Tastes of black cherry tartness up front followed by the bourbon on the back end. This medium to full bodied brew is a nice balance between the bourbon and the black cherry. deyholla (11900) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - NOV 11, 2010
Sampled from the tap at the brew pub. Poured black with a grayish brown head that dissipated completely. Aroma had tart cherries with roasted malt with some backing bourbon. Flavor had cherry and bourbon that didn’t really meld together with a backing roasted malt note.
