RBSG09 bottle at the grand tasting. Pours dark amber brown with a beige head. Epic aroma, lots of bourbon obviously but also dark fruits, bananas, and chocolate. Flavor is roasty and chocolatey with some tart bourbon, vanilla, and a woody dry finish. juiceisloose (1526) - Windermere, Florida, USA - JUL 13, 2009
Courtesy GoT. Pours a dark brown almost cola like color with a small and foamy tan colored head. The aroma shows dark chocolate, spices, oak, and some sour mash bourbon. The flavor follow suit with the dark chocolate and spices up front then followed by a lot more sour mash bourbon. The oak imparts a nice vanilla flavor to round things out and smooth over the sour mash. The body is substantial with ample carbonation leading to a dry, cocoa finish. This is a really nice take on a schwarzbier. ajm (1072) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JUL 2, 2009
Another bonus bottle from mbirder. Way to rep the MI, my man. Really strange beer, but Shwartzbiers certainly deserve barrel treatment as this one proves. Nose is probably the best scent I have come across in a BA selection: nice round bourbon, vanilla, fruity wood, spice, light banana from the base beer, roast. Flavors of the same with wheat and light grains showing up and milk chocolate. The finish is sudden and belies the thinness of the base beer which kind of separates the end from the big beginning. However, as roasty and fulfilling as most stouts in the world. hopscotch (11180) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUL 1, 2009
Bottle… O’sS&BS-I-T-YVBThrowdown… Pours very dark and burnt orange with a small, creamy, off-white head. The aroma is a monster blend of heavy, acidic sourmash, moderate dark chocolate and a touch of vanilla. Medium-bodied with a watery mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. Chocolaty, bourbony and a touch acrid. Lengthy, mildly sweet, sourmash and chocolate finish. Thanks to GoT for sharing the bottle! punkrkr27 (903) - Berkley, Michigan, USA - JUN 30, 2009
Thanks to northernbrews for sharing this. Pours out near black with just a hint of light coming through the edges of the glass and a dense white had with great lacing. The aroma is mostly bourbon with some mildly roasted malt and bread. The flavor is the same with a hint of sweet vanilla and a fair amount of alcohol. The body is medium-thin and aqueous with soft carbonation. Good brew but only ’cause I like bourbon beers, but otherwise the balance is pretty off. I don’t think the base beer just has enough flavor or body to handle the bourbon.

Thanks to northernbrews for sharing this. Pours a dark brown with thin dark tan head that dissipates quickly, very little lacing. Aroma strong of alcohol and bourbon, chocolate, and caramel. Flavor matches well, but wasn’t quite as hot as aroma would have suggested. Had a slight acidic nature and a lot of chocolate and vanilla. Overall very nice brew. mattmc1973 (479) - Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA - JUN 21, 2009
Shared at Kuhnhenn Summer Solstice. Poured into a snifter, dark brown with beige head. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate, and hot booze, hotter than the abv would indicate. Taste of chocolate, coffee, bourbon. A bit thin on the mouthfeel. OK. bitbucket (2165) - Kirkland, Washington, USA - MAY 25, 2009
12-oz. Thanks, BVC! Pours dark amber with a lacy off-white head. Light body and carbonation. Bourbon-laden caramel nose. Coffee and chocolate taste with with a soft bourbon finish. I don’t get much of the barrel, mostly the bourbon. bgburdman9 (866) - columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 22, 2009
Old rating. Aroma was of a lot of bourbon and chocolate. Has a little tartness to this and some sour. Not bad at all but not what was expected. durhambeer (2500) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAR 10, 2009
Bottle shared by JCB, our local Shorts hookup. Funky yeast and lost of malt and bourbon/oak. Vanilla, a bit of smoke. Quite good.
