650 ml. Shared at Xmas Eve cubed tasting. Opaque with a half-inch lasting head. Aroma is tart cherry-berry lambic yeast and roast. Flavor is the same. Medium body is acidic-dry. Disappointingly, this bottle was infected. Not horrible, but tasted nothing like a bourbon barrel-aged schwarz. Would like to try another batch sometime. lithy (2996) - Capital of Appalachia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 27, 2008
tronraner’s Xmas Eve Eve Eve Tasting. Sample from a bottle thanks to nearbeer. Dark dark brown with a thin light tan head. Reddish in the light. Big bourbon smokiness in the aroma. Taste is tart almost...weird. Bourbon smokiness and big malt underneath. tronraner (2459) - Walland, Tennessee, USA - DEC 26, 2008
Bottle at Xmas Eve Eve Eve. Pours garnet black with big beige head. The aroma is berries, light oak and vanilla, and some sourness. The flavor is lactic acid, roasted malt, and barrel char. Weird. We were wondering if this bottle was infected because of the lactic notes, but judging by other ratings the whole batch had a sour edge to it. I liked it well enough. afterglow (1047) - Florida, USA - DEC 21, 2008
Bottle courtesy of tpd975. Pours a clear dark brown amber with a small tan head. Aroma of bourbon, caramel, vanilla, and oak. Taste is the same as aroma with a heavy emphasis on the bourbon. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness and slightly warm alcohol. Good but a Schwarzbier is too light of a beer to barrel age and have some sort of balance between the base beer and the bourbon, oak, and vanilla from the barrel. kiefdog (1826) - Tampa, Florida, USA - DEC 17, 2008
Thanks to tpd975 for the share. Pours a dark brown to black with light brown head. Aroma is strongly of bourbon, vanilla, malt sweetness, some hints of wood and maybe spice. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of bourbon, phenol, caramel, some wood and smoke. Mouthfeel is milky and creamy with a slightly sweet malty finish.

Big thanks to Beerlando for this awesome beer. Pours blckish red with a thin off white head. Really nice bourbon vanilla oak roasted grain and slightly sour aroma. Very light and sour flavor, yet has nice hints of roasted grain, vinegar, sour apple, and bourbon. Very complex and light, yet bursts with so many flavors and is so easy to drink. This is good. Thanks again to tpd975. This is my first Shorts Brewing beer. Pours dark brown with amber and copper edges to go along with a light brown head. The aroma is wood, bourbon, vanilla and a sliver of caramel. The taste begins with a quick pulse of sweet malts, a hint of roasted malts and caramel. Then wood and bourbon rise up followed by a note of vanilla. Tasty stuff but for me it is balanced a little too much on the side of the barrel flavors. Just by a bit though. zathrus13 (1776) - Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA - DEC 12, 2008
Pours dark brown, with a light brown head. Aroma is bourbon, malt, and molasses. Flavor is bourbon, fruit, malt, and chocolate. Medium body. Ends a little sour and tart. Very good brew. sebletitje (10080) - Enghien, BELGIUM - DEC 10, 2008
All hails to mighty tpd975 for making my 600th review a good one.
Pours black with tan head.
Aroma has plenty of the bourbon nose, rich but remains very subtle and light.
Taste, lots of roastiness, chocolate malts and light hints of bourbon.
The overall mouthfeel is very enjoyable and leaves an aftertaste almost mocha.
I really could not pick up any bitterness or tartness.
This is definitely a new and interesting twist to Schwarzbier. Thumbs up. redlight (2318) - Orlando, Florida, USA - DEC 10, 2008
Bomber. Cherries, vanilla, oak all on the nose. Pours very dark brown black at the center. Sour cherries, oak, vanilla, bourbon, very tart and funky flavors. It reminds me of something from Jolly Pumpkin. Excellent beer!
