Bottle. Great aroma of vanilla, chocolate, molasses, toffee, and caramel with light banana bread and dark fruit. Tastes complex and delicious. All the aromas come through nicely along with candi sugar and light bourbon. Medium body. Very low carb. Slightly syrupy mouthfeel. I liked this way more than I expected. Draft on tap at Great Taste of the Midwest 2015 (MadisonN WI). Pours a a nice brownish ruby hazy pour. Darker reddish glow, opaque body with firmer frothy brownish head atop. A nice layer, solid lacing as a mellow film and thicker ringer. Aromas are a bit toasty, dry and carmelized with candi sugar, spirit and bourbon meet toffee, toast, dried dark fruit, Belgian yeast and a bit of dark fruit. Initial is medium bodied, a bit warm and toasty with biscuits, caramel and oak. A bit of spice, whiskey and candi sugar. Earth, toast and biscuit meet subtle vanilla, warming bourbon. Backend is lots of dark and dried fruit, raisin and plum, some toasty malts and earth, subtle vanilla and a jab of chocolate at times. Toasty, some toasty biscuity carmelized and dark fruit life, subtle spice. Tap @ Shorts: Deep, swampy brown, essentially no head when this one arrives at the table. Sweet, warm aroma. Toffee, bourbon, dominant Candi sugar coated prunes, faint residual brown sugar. The taste is great, even better than the aroma. Graham cracker & maple syrup glaze spread over a bed of candied raisins & prunes. Mild bourbon, wood & vanilla from barrel aging, but only a supporting role. Finishes with ever so slightly tart dark fruits coating the palate. A great beer & a nice surprise.

On tap: The aroma consists of raisins, caramel, and fruit, chocolate, and bourbon. It’s a dark brown with some orange highlights and a small beige head. The flavor starts raisin, chocolate, and caramel. The finish has sour fruit, bourbon, light maple syrup, and a touch of butterscotch. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation. 4oz on tap at HopCat East Lansing during the Shorts tap takeover. Sampled straight after trying the base beer. Dark brown color. Thin off-white brown head. Nice dots of lace. Light smooth carbonation. Bigger sweet taste, light spice, some tannin. Dark chocolate, some spice, dark fruit. Complex, but spicy flavor. On tap at the brewpub. Almost black reddish pour. Aroma of malt and hops accented by bourbon. Roasted malt notes with a exquisite bourbon finish. Excellent Belgian.
