Pub Brew. Bourbon Huma is our best-selling American India Pale Ale aged in Bourbon barrels for up to 9 months. Initial malt sweetness is replaced with flavors of charred oak and sweet vanilla, followed by the standard Huma hop punch to the palate. This new combination creates the sensation of sipping on a sweet Bourbon that finishes like a bitter hop theme park in your mouth.

A: The pour is a bright copper/amber color with a bit of white head on top. S: The nose is much more IPA forward than I was expecting. Good piney hops along with some hints of citrus. Not really all that much bourbon, perhaps just some oak and vanilla notes. T: Again, the bourbon really isn’t noticeable here. I pick up a slight bit of oak and tannins, but not that usual booze and sweet vanilla. Still a fair amount of pine to it, maybe a touch of sweetness at points. A hint of diacetyl on a couple sips, too. M: The body is medium with a pretty good level of carbonation that pricks the tongue. D: Overall, not bad, but I still prefer IPAs to be as fresh and free from -bals as possible.

Keg at the RBSG Grand Tasting. Pours a clear copper color with a medium tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of bourbon, nutty notes, toffee and leafy, earthy hops. The taste is bitter, leafy hops, bourbon and a bit of chocolate. Medium-full bodied. Nice beer.

Thank you Josh for sharing this one from! Poured a medium and clear orange color with a thin sized off white head. Aromas of whiskey/bourbon (more as it warmed up), with some woody/earthiness and a hint of vanillla. Tastes of bourbon, coconut, vanilla, wood, and citrus.

deyholla (12676) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUL 27, 2010
Sampled at the MBGSF ’10. Poured a amber with a thick white head that dissipated quite slowly. Aroma had a clear bourbon note with melded nicely with the pine hops. There was a bit of a backing bread/cereal note. Flavor was more malty with a bourbon kick and the pine hops becoming more of a background flavor.

Draft @ MBGSF10. Pours a slightly hazy amber brown with a large off-white head. The aroma subtle sweet malt, citrus, barrel notes of vanilla and wood, with slight bourbon character. The flavor has a nice blend of sweet malts and a blend of hops. Citrus and mild pine stand out. The bourbon is not over the top and adds some vanilla notes. A little thin, but not bad at all.

FROTHINGSLOSH (8375) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 13, 2016
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy vibrant copper color with a large foamy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was bitter, piney, fruity, rough and earthy. The flavor was bitter, floral , herbal, earthy and rough. Long finish. Medium body. Disappointing.

TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUL 27, 2010
Sampled at the RBSG Summer Grand Tasting (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a nice glowing hazy amber, a nice brightness, frothy white head laces well, films over quite well. Aromas are juicy grapefruit and orange hops, a kiss of bourbon, vanilla tannins, decent biscuity and pale malts beneath. Initial has nice smooth vanilla dn biscuits, citrusy hops, but not that teltale bourbon booziness. Lighter than the nose presented. A fresh still hoppy beer, light bourbon, nice bitter dry finish. A good IPA made a little bit better with oak and a decent vanilla smoothness.

Dark golden color with a small, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla, honey, bourbon, toast, and alcohol. Taste of honey, vanilla, citrus, pine, bourbon, and light alcohol as well.

MiBG Summer Fest 2010: Clean golden hue with a nice frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of vanilla and oak, surprisingly little alcohol, resiny, spicy and piney hops, along with some crystal malt and minerally esters. The taste displays a twangy fruit character along with some moderate resiny and leafy hop bitterness before the slight bourbon barrel notes come about. Very nice balance about this beer, no one characteristic over plays it’s hand. The mouth feel is warming but not boozy, aggressive yet not palate numbing. This is very good and one of the few BB aged IPA’s that still rocks the hops and is not over barreled.

superspak (6376) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - NOV 8, 2016
22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/13/2016. This batch is 11.8% per their website. Pours clear deep orange/light copper color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, bread, light pepper, and floral/grassy/oaky earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops, bourbon barrel, and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Some increasing barrel booziness in the aromas as it warms. Flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, bread, light pepper, and floral/grassy/oaky earthiness. Light-moderate pine/grassy bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon/orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, bread, light pepper, and floral/grassy/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops, bourbon barrel, and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from hop bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a smooth, moderately creamy/sticky, and slightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is fairly well hidden with a small warmth and a bit of barrel booziness lingering after the finish; but not overwhelming. Overall this is an excellent barrel aged DIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops, bourbon barrel, and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the huge ABV. Less vibrant/aggressive on the hops/bitterness than the base beer, but has nice balanced barrel complexity; and is not overwhelming on the bourbon, though is a bit boozy. A very enjoyable offering.
