ControversiALE, FKA Hangin’ Frank, is a tribute to Simcoe hops. Simcoe hops are extremely sought after and limited, so Short’s is excited to share this brew with Michigan craft beer lovers every spring. The earthy, citrus and pine-laced aroma is instantly delectable. A large amount of toasted grains and high alpha hops form a perfect union that creates the sensation of toasted sourdough covered with grapefruit hop marmalade. While this beer is hopped like IPA, it drinks like Pale Ale. The light, refreshing qualities of this beer make it perfect for springtime.

Aroma is grassy, sweet, hoppy. Appearance is light orange, hazy, half-finger white head. Taste is...seemingly missing. I’m really getting nothing at the front, a very very very light hop flavor, finishing extremely bitter, the bitterness coming out of nowhere. Very disapppointing. The mouthfeel is pretty decent, sticky yet soft. Overall, I expected more. This was recommended to me at a craft beer store, and he claimed to like it more than Hopslam. He must not like IPAs. Try it, but don’t expect much.

Bottle at yespr. Clear orange coloured with a medium sized white head. Fruity aroma of hops and pine needles with notes of petroleum. Fruity flavour of hops, petroleum and grapefruits. Dry hoppy finish.

Bottled. A dark golden beer with a yellowish head. The aroma has notes of citrusy hops, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of lemons, citrusy hops, straw, and malt, leading to a bitter finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is peachy and grapefruity hoppy. Herbal and dense grapefruity hops. Bitter and citrusy dry finish.

Pours a dark amber color. Aroma is fruit citrus and pineapple with a severe hop presence. Taste is pineapple and hops, with hints of citrus and pine. This is a very hoppy beer with not a lot of malt to balance it. This is a great ipa bitter with fruits and a lot of pineapple.... Like more pineapple than I’ve ever seen in a beer ever.

Had it out of a bottle. It is a nice hazy amber orange color. A smell head. Smells very citrusy and sweet - a really nice nose. It tastes fruity and hoppy but not really bitter or anything.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; clear amber pour with white foam head, malty aroma, biscuity malt taste some grapefruit hop, not enough hop for me.

Pours a hazed orange-gold with a fairly buoyant if thin off-white head that settles leaving soapy spotty lace. Nose involves nice dough and grain notes along with grapefruit, earth, and spicy hop notes. Some sweetness with plenty of bitterness. Lighter side of medium, softer carb yet sharp with bitterness. Good brew, quite drinkable yet lots of IPA goodness.

Bottle. I thought this was an uneventful beer and lacked flavor. It felt like it was stuck between a pal ale and and IPA. My bottle must not have been fresh is my guess.
