COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
ControversiALE, FKA Hangin’ Frank, is a tribute to Simcoe hops. Simcoe hops are extremely sought after and limited, so Short’s is excited to share this brew with Michigan craft beer lovers every spring. The earthy, citrus and pine-laced aroma is instantly delectable. A large amount of toasted grains and high alpha hops form a perfect union that creates the sensation of toasted sourdough covered with grapefruit hop marmalade. While this beer is hopped like IPA, it drinks like Pale Ale. The light, refreshing qualities of this beer make it perfect for springtime.

Bottle. Really? This stuff is overrated. Smells like an armpit. Medium palate. Taste is citrus and grass.

Cloudy Orange-ish with a one finger white head. Good lacing already. Wonderful sweet aroma......sweet fruit, pine and grass. Incredible flavor and think mouth feel for such a light IPA. Awesome.

it’s still Hangin Frank to me! Pours dark orance with some noticable sediment at the bottom of the glass. 2 fingers of lacing head. Aroma of Lemon, Apricot, Orange, Grapefruit. Loads of citrus in the mouth - The aforementioned are there giving way to a bready aftertaste. Medium carbonation. It’s good, especially for those who love their citrus fruit hops, but does not really set itself out from the pack - I prefer Humulupulicious - or however the hell you spell that.

Thanks to drowland for bringing this to the Proof tasting. Medium copper pour, nice white sticky head. Solid spruce aroma with some light feline urine notes in the back end. Nice bitter grapefruity notes, malty syrupy background. Thick enough mouthfeel.

11/2/11. 12oz bottle courtesy daknole! Hazy orange pour with a small khaki head that fades. Huge dank hop aroma that throws bitter grapefruit, cattiness, and more. Sweet, fruity flavor with more grapefruit, plenty of bitterness, and just a touch of malts. A bit thin, perhaps. Not bad!

Hazy amber tinted orange and rusty bronze coloured body with a thin, fast-dying off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit, concord grapes, citrus, hops, alcohol, dry oak and a bit of caramel. Medium-bodied; BIting piney and grapefruit hops with a lot of resin and pungency up front. Aftertaste is more complex with a nuts, oak, grass and even some light spices coming in the mix. Overall, a nice and complex IPA that starts out very hoppy at first, but is left balanced and complex near the end - a great beer for the style. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 28-April-2011 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 13-August-2011.
