COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
ControversiALE, FKA Hangin’ Frank, is a tribute to Simcoe hops. Simcoe hops are extremely sought after and limited, so Short’s is excited to share this brew with Michigan craft beer lovers every spring. The earthy, citrus and pine-laced aroma is instantly delectable. A large amount of toasted grains and high alpha hops form a perfect union that creates the sensation of toasted sourdough covered with grapefruit hop marmalade. While this beer is hopped like IPA, it drinks like Pale Ale. The light, refreshing qualities of this beer make it perfect for springtime.

On tap at the pub Bright orange color, very clear, no head. Very fruity and floral aroma. Grapefruit comes through strong. Pleasant taste. Lots of grapefruit, some bitterness, but a tad dry at the end. Not a big IPA guy, but this one is good.

12oz bottle. Filtered amber-orange-brown body. Foamy off white head. Oily, resinous hop character. Pretty antiquated, unexceptional stuff. The aroma is completely undesirable. Resinous, burnt, oily piney hop tones. Mellow NW citrus tones. Drinkable, but completely unimpressive for an IPA in 2017.

SG111 (1859) - New York, USA - AUG 2, 2017
Bottled 07/26/17. Pours clear deep golden, malty appearance, white head. Aroma is pine, lemon pledge, orange, caramel malt bill, earthy. Flavor is pine, orange, follows the aroma overall. Kind bitter, not too much.

Bottled on: 3/25/2016. Rated on 2/8/2017. Aromas of peaches and iced tea and lemon. Taste is caramel, lemon, peach, and iced tea. Rating is not really fair due to age of beer. Will rate again with a fresher beer.

FROTHINGSLOSH (7879) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 21, 2017
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a murky copper color with a medium sized foamy orange-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy with pine and pepper. The flavor was sweet and tangy with pine, cracker and black pepper. Long finish. Medium body. Solid

12 ounce bottle from Plum Market, 3/15/16. Hazy amber, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of herbal, piney, catty, citrus hops, pale malt. The taste is herbal, resin, piney hops, pale malts, a mild bit of caramel. Medium bodied, moderate lingering bitterness. Well balanced.

12oz bottle from Blue Dog. Poured an ugly tea brown with a bubbly off white head. Aroma/flavor of grains, brown bread, sweet malts, earth, nuts and English yeast. Bigger body from forced carbonation. Drain pour.

Pours orange gold with a small white head that left good lacing. Aroma is citrus, pine and earthy. Taste is more sweet then bitter but it has a touch of tartness. Medium bodied with some stickiness. Nice APA.

Easy little brew from Shorts, it makes my Piggly’s all Wiggly. Strong Simcoe Hop aroma, hat golden hue, thin white head and a delicious bitter hop citrus flava. Holla!!!

Bottle. Pours a clear light copper with a white head. Aromas of pine, citrus and toffee. Buttery rich toffee flavors, pine needles, brown sugar, bready tones and resiny hops. Well balanced. Rich. Definitely not a hop bomb, but assertively hoppy. Slightly oily mouth feel. Very nice.
