Tap @ Shorts: Jet black, solid & chunky khaki head on top. Aroma full of roasted barley & toasted grains with some very dry cocoa powder & cocoa dust with moderate char. Almost along the lines of a dry Irish stout. Taste is amplified a bit with a heavily roasted malt bill, nearly scorched malts with sharp lager yeast becoming apparent towards the back-end. Burnt barley, roasted grains, & charred rye bread all come to mind. Perhaps a bit lopsided in terms of roast vs. sweetness, but I enjoyed this one. Thinner mouth feel, smooth & clean finish. bpar73 (1118) - Bellaire, Michigan, USA - OCT 3, 2013
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a solid black with a minimal head. Smoky, burnt chocolate aroma aroma and taste. Just a nice mild smoky brew. Another solid black lager from Short’s.
