COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Freedom of ’78 is a medium bodied IPA with a wonderful, bright clarity and pleasing bronze hue. The aroma is a unique fusion of citrus fruit and subtle pine qualities. The distinct characteristics of the guava nectar are impossible to miss, and attributes of tangerine, nectarine, and even faint honey flavors are detectable. The finish quickly turns to an expected IPA bitterness that turns dry during prolonged tastings

12 oz bottle. Pours golden amber with an off-white head. Aroma is interesting and heavily spruce-like, not like pine resin, but like Short’s Spruce Pilsner, though the resinous hops are also certainly there. Beyond that, there are some citrus, earthy, and peppery aromas. Flavor leads again with the spruce, blending quite well into the resinous hops, lemon and grapefruit citrus, earthiness, and toasted biscuit. Light bitter bite at the end. Really quite nice. I guess I should mention that I don’t have any inkling of what guava tastes like, so my aroma and flavor descriptions might not quite be accurate. But I like it a lot.

1/15/11. Bottle shared at the Sea Bass tasting. Crazy big nose of pot, pine, hops, cat pee, fruit, and more. Sweet tropical fruit flavor with tons of bitter hop kick, pine, and more. A bit strange, but very complex, and quite fruit forward. Nice!

Part of the 13 Shorts in one night tasting at the Mikes on 2/18/11. Thanks Mike. Was the first of the bunch, and one of the best. Nose is guava and grapefruit. Taste is great sharp IPA with strong bite of clean guava way in the back. Subtle. Not overpowering at all. Very nice.

Surprisingly great IPA with great tropical fruit flavor and medium sweetness. Nicely bitter and crisp. Great beer courtesy of tooch.

12oz Bottle. Fresh guava juice aroma, clean and pithy. Reminds me immeadiately of those Mexican juice drinks. Love that when a beer takes me someplace so quickly. Add a little hoppy beer behind and you’ve got a unique combo. Things get a little murky in the flavor portion, with a strong green bitterness dominating. The guava flavors are good, but this bitterness is a bit tough to push through. Otherwise, a super clean and beautifully dry finish with floral fruit notes. Guava pairs really well with hops here, but watch the bittering for balance.

Aroma: Guava, citrus and fruity
Taste: Tropical fruit, citrus, mild bisquity with a bitter pine finish
Very nice and drinkable.

Hazy amber beer, little white head. Nice hops and guava nose. Crispy palate, dry. Bitterish hops - bitter orange marmalde that is wonderfully offset by good guava. Creamy malt base. Unapologetically bitter finish. Another cracking inventive beer from Shorts.

Wow. I didn’t known what to expect on this one. Clear honey color with white head that disappeared quickly. Tropical fruit salad smell, which sounds weird but true. Sweet fruity taste that ends bittering, maybe a hint of bubblegum. Very interesting offering and actually very enjoyable.

Bottle. Caramel color with a slight haze and grayish/beige head. Almost all guava and strawberry aromas. Tart guava that finishes with some piney hops. Finishes bitter.
