Bottle. First Shorts rating! :-) Pours a deep hazy orange body with a massive, pillowy off-white head. Very impressive. Aroma is ginger, pumpernickel bread, pale malts, molasses and something in the area of roasty, dark, grain-heavy cracker bread. Highly interesting. Taste is mellow ginger notes, grassy hops, honey, syrup and hints of nuts, nougat and grains. Highly orginal. And tasty, although the aroma was slightly better. Like a Belgian blonde, with rye and ginger. Never had anything like it but it seems well-crafted and balanced, with the often in-your-face-flavor of ginger integrated finely in the background while mellow hops and rye circulate in the front. [750ml bottle, courtesy of cgarvieuk] Hazy orange pour, thin white head. Ginger beer aroma, slight spice? Bit thin, but fizzy. Aromatic. Touch of tartness. Bready malts and sweetness on the palate, ginger comes through more than the rye – but they are both there. Imperial Rye Munich Ale? UPDATED: DEC 27, 2011 Bottle at Craigs. Pours a golden colour with a thin beige head. Big ginger nose with some rye, yeast and caramel. Fair ginger flavour with caramel, pumpkin, white pepper, lemon and grassy hops. Heavy carbonation with a fair CO2 prickle. Lingering ginger flavour. 7,3,6,4, 14 (3.4). Had this again with Colin, Vik and Sev, Christmas 2011. I really enjoyed the ginger aroma and flavours and the rye and lemon citrus characters really worked. Much preferred this second time around, I suspect because it’d been a while since I’d had a ginger beer this time around.

Bottle @ Cask Pub and Kitchen in London. Pours an amber color with a small off white head. Aroma is of ginger and some faint rye notes, I get some citrussy lemony notes from the ginger, along with a nice breadiness, along with some sweet malts. The flavor is very well balanced between ginger and rye, with notes of citrus, orange, bready notes and sweet malts. The rye makes it sit fairly heavyly in your stomach.
