Pub Brew. Howlin’ Chinaski is a light bodied, golden straw colored Dortmunder beer. It has bready Bohemian lager yeast esters and grassy hop aromas. The overall malt sweetness is quite low, with the dominate flavors being the hearty milled grains. Howlin’ Chinaski has slight bitter complements from the German Spalt hops.

Howlin’ Chinaski was brewed as a traditional German Dortmunder Lager. Dortmunder is a Pale Lager that originated in the industrial city of Dortmund, Germany. Originally brewed by Dortmunder Union brewery in 1873, this soft pilsner style beer became very popular with industrial workers, and was responsible for Dortmunder Union becoming Germany’s largest brewery and Dortmund having the highest concentration of breweries in Germany.

Bottle. Hazy yellow color with a thin white head. Lemon zest and wheat aroma. Lots of malt in the initial taste but the flavor is dominated by a bitter yeast with subtle spices. Lively carbonated with a sticky texture. Different for sure and not offensive, but one of these is enough for the night.

Bottle from mikem409, thanks Mike! Pours a golden yellow with a bit of a white head. No real lacing. Aroma has sweet light fruits, grains and some basement or old liquor store. Taste is of lemon, straw or wheat, some sour fruit and bread. With a dank cellar component. Lowly carbonated. Light to medium bodied with a touch of alcohol presence. Finishes sour and sweet, with some length. Not my favorite style. 11.7

Pours a cloudy yellowish color. Aroma and taste are malts and some hops. Not very enjoyable.

Fruity yeast esters with some piney hops. Light and crisp, but otherwise less than interesting.

12oz bottle. Slightly cloudy yellow brew with white head. Nice aroma of lemon grass. Taste is light sweet malt and lemon up front, moving to more lemony ctirus. Creamy to oily palate. Slight soured aftertaste, could have been a dated bottle, as it was park of a mix six.

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2015 From MI - Decent helles beer, a litte malty sweet with a bitter finish. A kind of well unusual flavor to it that I can’t place as well. Serving: Bottle

Bottle. Pours a very light straw color. Very cloudy. Small white head. Aroma of bread and grapes???. Flavor is bitter, but not a good bitter. A bit metalic. Shorts is always a bit erratic in what they bottle, but I thought this one would be better. Its light and drinkable and that’s why I didn’t completely slam it in the numerical rating, but not something I’d drink again unless I saw it on tap.

Pour form a 12oz bottle. Slightly cloudy yellow brew with white head. Nice aroma of lemon grass. Taste is light sweet malt and lemon up front, moving to more pronounced lemon tang toward then end bur sliding into a gentle sweet malt at the finish. Tasty all around. Shorts always nails a nice soft carbonation and creamy palate and that is the case here. What fine summertime brew!

Pours into the glass a bright banana yellow. With a thin white head. A strange aroma. Almost butter like. Yet it’s still crisp. A refreshing drink that has a big creamy feel. A nice fruit sense. Pineapple taste and feel. Also has a small peppery back feel. Good stuff in a not so common style.

A very solid american made lager, balenced with some great flavor to leave you with something, would definitely drink again
