A complex malt and hop theme park in your mouth
Huma Lupa Licious’ name derives from the hop plant, Humulus lupulus. It is Short’s best-selling India Pale Ale. Huma Lupa Licious is brewed with five different hop varieties, providing a punch to the palate. Between the beer’s abundance of hops, and the type of hops used in its creation, it has a delicious bitter taste and enticing citrus aroma. The hearty malt bill melds well with the hops for a perfect balance.

Huma Lupa Licious is the product of Joe Short wanting to create the ultimate IPA experience. Originally, Huma Lupa Licious was named Humulus Lupulus Maximus, and went through several recipe changes before settling on the recipe we know and love today.

pours a hazy orange gold with a medium white head. Big aroma of grapefruit citrus and sweet floral. Hop bitter from the start. full oily mouth feel. Taste some of the grapefruit coming in with a muted but definite malt presence. Long bitter linger. Right in my hophead wheelhouse. Good beer!

Bottle. Giant. Caramel, malt, hop, floral, spice and citrus candy. Some vanilla as well. Heavy heat from the bite, floral and earth hops contrast the powerful juicy nuggets. Well balanced spice and a woody finish. Great stuff.

Hazy orange pour, thin white head. Aroma of hops. Flavor is sweet, hoppy. Not the best finish. Some lingering malts. A little alcohol.

Bottle. Grapefruit citrus hop aroma with biscuity malt and pine resiny hop notes. Pours cloudy golden colored with a large, soapy off white head that has excellent retention and some lacing. Starts with biscuity malt flavors as well as grapefruity hop citrus and acidity. Finishes dry and very bitter pine resin hoppiness that coats the palate. Pretty good IPA, but very bitter on the finish.

Bot & boy do I wish I could tell the minute differences between IPA hops. All I feel is the overwhelming bitterness everytime I drink a good one. So powerful, so thick, so mouthcoating, so terribly on style. Think pine tar mixed with a combination of fruity turpentine, hand soap and then chewing on way too green bitter grapefruit rinds. Somewhat mildly volatile aroma. Probably treads into the IIPA imperial category.

Lightly cloudy orange gold, ample tan head. Strong pine resin, acerbic grapefruit, strong biscuity and honey malt backbone. Strong bitterness, not too much sweetness. Lightly oily, medium body, fair bit of carbonation. Good.

Pours a hazy honey orange with an off-white head that settles to a small cap. Aroma is of solid biscuit-like malt, pineapple, citrus zest and a floral character. Taste is of citrus zest hops up front with a nice malt flavor on the finish. There are also some tropical fruit flavors that show up in the taste. Mild hop bitterness lingers on the palate after each sip. Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Very balanced IPA.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy vibrant copper color with a large foamy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was bitter, pine, fruity, rough and earthy. The flavor was bitter, floral , herbal, earthy and rough. Long finish. Medium body. Meh.
