COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A complex malt and hop theme park in your mouth
Huma Lupa Licious’ name derives from the hop plant, Humulus lupulus. It is Short’s best-selling India Pale Ale. Huma Lupa Licious is brewed with five different hop varieties, providing a punch to the palate. Between the beer’s abundance of hops, and the type of hops used in its creation, it has a delicious bitter taste and enticing citrus aroma. The hearty malt bill melds well with the hops for a perfect balance.

Huma Lupa Licious is the product of Joe Short wanting to create the ultimate IPA experience. Originally, Huma Lupa Licious was named Humulus Lupulus Maximus, and went through several recipe changes before settling on the recipe we know and love today.

Appearance: Medium to darker amber. Hazy. Finger of white foam. Laces nicely Nose: citrus, pine and grass. Honey sweetness as well. Taste: bigger citrus and pine hops in the front that mellow towards the end. Decent back of the sip bitters. Touch of restrained honey caramel sweetness throughout. Body: medium and sharp on the first sip. Parting thoughts: A very solid IPA. Nicely constructed.

Tap at Pyramid Scheme. Almost clear dark golden with off white head with lots of lacing. Mango, quite some caramel, dank weedy hops, a bit of cardboard, green leaves and grassy. Medium sweet and bit over medium bitter. A bit over medium bodied with over medium carbonation.

12 ounce bottle, last of a six-pack from Woodmans in Janesville, WI. Served from a Fitgers pint glass just above fridge temperature. I like IPAS cold, so sue me! A beautiful pour, with a creamy, lasting meringue head atop a translucent, golden body...aroma is sweet, sticky and pungent, the several hop varieties creating overall a musky profile that carries most of the typical IPA smells at once - citrus, resin, grasses, dry herbs, but overall dominated by a sweet (almost sickly-sweet) honey-wet bark character...on the tongue, sweetness hits first but is overwhelmed by a strong deep bitterness at midpalate, drying out considerably into a long, tingly finish. Body is very full, almost too full and verging on syrupy (this is why it’s best quite cold) but that lingering dry, slightly woody finish very much saves it. On the whole, one of my favorite current Midwestern IPAs, and it’s ease of drinking and lack of fuesal alcohol presence belies it’s strength, just as it should be for a beer like this.

FROMTHEBOTTLE (86) - Ontario, CANADA - JUL 12, 2016
12oz bottle. Pour is golden with pronounced haziness. Head is rather thin but persistent. Hops aromas dominate on the nose. Citrus and fresh grain come to mind. Lots of tropical fruit (melon) combined with a sweet maltiness. Finish is more citrus and hops. I can see why this is a staple in there portfolio. Well put together IPA.

Quick burst of citrus hops that" falls off the cliff" quickly. But long after swallowing, a soft soft lingering floral hop bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

JPDIPSO (6317) - Wauwatosa, USA - JUN 21, 2016
Dark golden to light amber in color. Taller head that is mostly lasting, but ends up quite fluffy and leaves a nice sheet of lace. Dark caramel and mild licorice aromas dominate. Hints of zest and melon in the background. Medium body with a little oiliness and a touch of acid that zips things along. A bit woody in the finish. A bit more traditional. 5/10

Pillow off-white head. Mild bread and citrus aroma. Oddly soft on the palate. Strong flavor profile with nice citrus and tropic fruit on top of a solid malt sweetness that sneaks in just before a solidly bitter finish. I’d like it to be a bit crisper on the palate.

3.7
BeerdedDave (2041) - Beckley, USA - JUN 15, 2016
slightly cloudy, amber color; citrusy hop aroma; citrusy hop flavor with tropical fruit notes; citrus up front, followed by tropical fruit and bready malt; dry, bitter finish
