COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
• Aromatic earth tonic of the resinous picea and humulus lupulus
• Beer Type: Imperial pilsner brewed with Northern Michigan Blue Spruce needles and healthy doses of high alpha hops

Imperial India Spruce Pilsner is fermented with local, hand-picked blue spruce tips and the quintessential symbol for Joe Short’s love of hops and craft beer. The spruce presence, rooted in historical brewing practices, is enormous and gives the beer a refreshing gin quality. This beer is impressively light bodied, considering the immense spruce flavors and the prodigious additions of hops.

bottle (didn’t quite jot down the # on this one). had at an evening w/ pantanap 3....this one was a real eye opener....poured a golden orange brown with a thin wispy white head...the nose was intense. pure spruce literally launched from the glass. if yo ulove the smell of xmas trees, you’ll certainly enjoy this....flavor-wise, the spruce played a huge role here as well. big on the spruce and pine with a litlle sweet honey malt that peeked through but was overshadowed by the spruce.....points for originality but i couldn’t have more that a few ounces of this stuff.

Bottle Sampled at "An Evening with Pantanap #3". Thanks to Kan for this. Pours a hazy orange with an off white head. Citrus with all that pine and srpuce in the nose. Green flavors. Fresh pine, spruce. With a long bitter pine needle finish. Strange beer, I’d have to say they maybe over did it a notch or two. But an interesting one.

bottle 477/886 at dak’s on 9/5/10 hazy. burnt orange with a foamy off white head. it leaves clingy foam around like mad. sweet piney smell... spruce, eucalyptus, molasses, juniper, sweet malt and some dank qualities. the palate is sweet upfront but dries out on the finish with the help of spice and pine notes. other than the notes from the aroma there is an odd flavor in the far back of cardamom... odd. full bodied and a bit taxing to finish. 7/4/6/2.5

EBF 2017. Pours a pretty clear golden with a small white head that leaves spotty lacing. Nose is of spruce, spruce and spruce hiding all the pils/lager character. Still fun, though. Taste is lightly sweet, lightly boozy and I’m not getting the spruce tips anymore but I’m sure they’re there. Moderately bitter. A bit ashy, too? Body is medium, carbonation moderate. Not transcending at all but still far from bad.

Bottle sampled at "An evening with Pantanap #3" #93 of 886. Hazy gold/orange with large white head. Pine and sweet malt aroma. Pine burn in the flavor, with slight sweet wood. Creamy with big burn. I think I am allergic to pine and as soon as I started drinking this beer I started sneezing, it took away from the entire experience of the beer for me and I couldn’t finish it. It did however blow my mind again with the simple possibilties of what you can do with beer.

Pours a hazy gold with a creamy white head. The nose was hoppy, very piney, smelled exactly like Spruce. Very interesting and on a certain level enjoyable nose. The flavor is a major dive, extremely astringent and mouth puckering hop presence. Very unappealing. Very astringent and bitter mouthfeel.

Bottle 75cl. @ [ Shorts Tasting ].
Clear medium orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is heavy hoppy, spruce, caramel, earth, spicy, fusty. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and heavy bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. It is TO MUCH !! [20081108]

Dr dre made this song called gin and juice... could have been this beer he was thinking of. Pours a piss-yellow moisty body med a clear white head. The taste is bitter, and parfumed like an overparfumed sweating southeuropean body. I taste christmas spieces, alot of spruces and alcohol with a parfumed and bitter finish - and strong. The palate is thick and full-bodied... This is the beer-version of the parfume: Davidoff Cool Water
