On tap at brewery. Aroma has no noticeable notes of kiwi but classic Saison malts and yeast with a little spice. Medium dark amber hue with an off-white head that left great lace. Medium bodied. Draft at the brewpub, Bellaire. Hazy dark/medium orange-brown body, medium clumping off-white head. Spicy, dark fruit nose, like a pie right out of the oven, spicy with caramel and clove notes. Lots of tart kiwi in the body, in addition to clove, bubblegum, crackers, and hints of apple skin. Nice interplay of fruit and spice. Not particularly sweet. Draft on tap at The Beer Spot GTMW Eve Event at Brickhouse (Madison, WI). Pours a richer deep well hazed amber pour, some frothy offwhite head dies to a filmy layer, decent lacing. Aromas are gentle sweetness, bread, a bit of citrus, mellow kiwi. Mellow earthy floral hops. Initial Is dry, a bit of tartness. Kiwi, mellow bready and gentle sweeter malts. Some decent hop presence, gentle dryness. Middle is more fruit and kiwi, tart and fruity. Some decent dryness, tart and bitter qualities. Backend is a redeemer, tart and dry. Some dryness. A touch of malty hang a long with decent dryness, tart kiwi to finish. Dry, a touch plastic. Ok.

Really unique and very spicy. Strong flavors of fresh cracked pepper, bubblegum, banana bread, and cloves... Maybe a slight tartness from the kiwi. Good, but maybe not as much kiwi as I would like.

The bubblegum aroma of the base saison just about ruins this one for me. Very much of the American vein saison rather than Dupont style. Sweet and sour kiwi fruit is prominent in the flavor but -- while adding interest -- is not able to overcome the underlying character of the beer. I appreciate the experimentation but am not a fan of the outcome.
