On draft at Churchkey in D.C.
The beer appears a dark brown color, with a small, light tan head that leaves some decent lacing in its wake.
The aroma is really powerful, with alcohol leading the charge. Strawberries and a general sweetness are in there as well.
The flavor brings a heavy dose of alcohol, cloying sweetness, some lactose. Ow. This is pretty hot. Tastes more like 15% abv. Strawberry Short’s Cake is a fabulous beer, and one of my favorites from this brewery. This concoction, however, falls way short of the mark.
The feel is creamy, if you can get past the alcohol and cloying sweetness.
Overall, not a repeat. It was hard to finish my small snifter.

On tap at Short’s Brewpub. Ugly translucent brown pour with red tinges, thin tan head. Strong aroma of booze and milk sugar, straw berry quick. Hot fruit notes and milk chocolate. Sweet flavor with lots of strawberry and what I understood at the time to be fruit snack/candy notes but after contemplating this beers nature believe them to be brandy barrel notes. The sweetness and booze are somewhat exhausting on the palate. Personally, a sip or two was fine but I’m grateful my girlfriend was willing to nurse this for me for most of the night. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - JUL 25, 2011
tap at shorts...ruddy brown body, almost swampy looking. thin head. overly cloying in the nose and flavor, it has a strong lactose component to the artificial strawberry aspect...like nestle straw milk... Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - JUN 17, 2011
On tap at Churchkey. Served in a snifter.
Pours a dark brown color with a very thin light tan head and a few specks of lacing on the way down. The nose brings strawberry and lactose. There’s a bit of sweetness there as well as some malt. Bit of booze as well. The flavor has strawberry and lactose, but then also carries a cardboard-like oxidation that’s not very pleasing. Along with the strawberry is some dark malt sweetness. A bit of astringency in the finish. Somewhat hot. Actually, the finish is fairly unpleasant. Medium body and low carbonation leading into the dry finish. I liked the Strawberry Short’s Cake, but this one took a turn for the worse, which is sad because I know Short’s can do a strawberry beer quite well.
