COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Quality lies just off the beaten path.
Pontius Road Pilsner is a true American-style Pilsner. The beer contains malted barley blended with flaked maize (corn) to produce a deliciously distinct flavor. It may be light in body and color, but it has a full flavor that gives way to a refreshing crispness. Handfuls of hops provide pleasant aromas and a wonderful dry finish.

Pontius Road Pilsner was designed to be like a colonial Pilsner. In colonial times, ingredients were often rationed so people used corn to supplement some of the barley in their beer recipes. Their Pilsners were also slightly hopped to add preservation. The name, Pontius Road Pilsner, derives from the road name that The Woodmaster, Bill Sohn, lives on. Bill encouraged Joe Short to move forward with his brewery business plan, and is a big reason why Short’s exists today!

Bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a big foamy white head. Yeasty aroma, bready and sharp, with grass, malt, a hint of lemon. Taste of yeasty bread, with malt, hay, and a hint of flowers. Lingering earthy yeast flavors that ends with some watery bitterness. Decent pils.

From bottle into pint glass. Pale yellow with white head. Citrus, biscuits, mango. Light body, medium carbonation. Easy simple beer.

Draft at Shorts in a flight from notes. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have pale, pilsner malts, grass, citrus, herbal notes, some bitterness, it’s a Pilsener and that doesn’t excite me very much.

Damico (3147) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 4, 2015
Pours very clear light lemon with a white head and some lacing. Aroma is a bit too light for me, some light lemony funky malt notes. But as described, the flavor is full and big with clean and not too crips lemony and sweet wheat like malts. Super satiating on a summer sunny day!

Not the best beer style but Short’s does a nice job making a drinkable pilsner. The best pilsner out there, maybe.

SHANER4 (500) - Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 14, 2014
bottle - poured very light straw color with thin white head. Aroma - hay, corn and some grassy notes. Taste - very similar to aroma. Grassy hops with sweet corn and salty sunflower seeds. Palate - thin mouthfeel with a lot of carbonation. Finish is somewhat dry and has little aftertaste. Overall - pretty good beer for the style. I had no issue drinking the beer and would have another. Short’s brewery just makes good sold tasting beer!!

czar (9009) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 8, 2014
pours hazy very pale yellow with a thin white cap, little retention and lacing. sweetish pils if not sweetened creamed corn - honeyed, faint fruitiness - maybe some small yellow fruits and white grape juice, lemon, pepper, sulfur, light grassy-herbal, light woodsy and dusty notes. low carboantion, light body - oily, assertive yet semi-sweet grassy-peppery-herbal-grapefruity short to medium long finish. ok.

Tap: Light, golden-straw color with a mild chill haze; quickly settling, soapy & bubbly white head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is... nothing. Smells like nothing. Very, very muted notes of mild corn, hulled grains, faint chalk, & stale, musty hops arise after allow this to warm up, but even then... weak. Taste is more vibrant but still quite boring. Moderate grain & pilsner malt. Hint of spicy Noble hop bitterness, metallic notes, must, astringency, & cereal grains. Clean lager yeast finish. A pilsner does NOT mean it has to be a boring beer. But this is a boring beer. Not bad, but not much going on, either. Good for power hours & century clubs, but maybe that’s about it.

Atom (2420) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUN 12, 2014
12oz bottle pours a clear pale straw/yellow with a medium white head. Aroma of corn and malt, barley and hops, simple straight forward. Taste is sweet and malty, fruity hops, big corn and barley. Decent pils.

fhoublon (461) - Lachine, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 29, 2014
Dégustée (bouteille) le 8 juin 2012 au Mondial de la Bière 2012 à Montréal (D2C2KPPO). Bière blonde limpide. Aucun col. Assez effervescente, bulles fines. Légère odeur de gingembre. Très très douce, assez sucrée, peu amère. Légère saveur d’épices. Plutôt mince et unidimensionnelle, manque de caractère. Bonne mais un peu fade.

RABinCO (1508) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - MAY 27, 2014
Bottle into a nonic pint. Real clear golden hay pour with a thin white head. Aroma is surprisingly big and roasty with a bit of grass, citrus, cereal, and yes, a tad bit of skunk and a bit of butter...but it works. Taste is crisp, clean, again surprisingly roasty malt character. Nice bitter, grassy bite. Crisp finish. Easy drinking.
