Pours a golden straw color with a huge 3 finger off-white head and ample lacing down the glass.
Smells like a BMC product really. Not too pleasant. Very grainy with little distinction.
Starts off with a pretty good rye spiciness. Fades into a piney resinous finish. A bit of astringency as well as it finishes extremely bitter. Oxidation shows up in the finish as well.
Mouthfeel is somewhat light and carb level is good.
Beginning to think I just don’t like Short’s. There’s nothing about this beer that appeals to me.

Bottle:   Amberish, hazy, slight grapefruit hue, huge frothy white head, almost appears infected.   Hoppy nose, otherwise a bit citrusy, slight pith.   Soft bitterness on the tongue, a bit of rye like wheatiness.   Has a candyish like sweetness that I attribute to either inected beers or ones that are over the hill.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Husky malty fanish, amidst some rye like bitterness, alnog with that artificial sweet/hoppy stuff.   Eck, something about this just says a bit on the artificial side. ads135 (4923) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JUL 26, 2012

Draft. Medium white head, clear amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, grapefruit, some catty, pineapple. Taste is moderately sweet, grapefruit, some earthy/herbal, bread, rye. Medium body, some resin.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy golden straw color with a nice 2-3 finger dense off white head with fantastic retention that reduces to a thick cap. Some decent lacing on the glass. There was a slow cascade of carbonation as I poured this. Aromas of big pine, rye spiciness, biscuit, herbal, caramel, and citrus. Some nice and well balanced aromas. Taste of big rye spiciness, caramel, biscuit, herbal, grapefruit, pine, and earthiness. Strong bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of rye spiciness, biscuit, caramel, and citrus for a bit. Good balance of flavors. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and slightly thick mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming after the finish. A - Pours a slightly hazy golden-orange color with a big covering of frothy white head atop. The head fades down very slowly leaving behind some thick lacing.
S - The aroma is a mix of sweet bready malts and citrus hops with some lemon zest. There is a bit of rye spiciness and other spices as well.
T - Starts off with a mix of citrus hops with some sweet bready malts and some lemon zest. There is a light touch of rye in the background. Through the middle, some earthy hops and some bitterness come through with more citrus fruit flavor. The finish is a mix of citrus hops, some earthy hops, bready malts, and a bit of rye.
M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. The beer feels smooth with a dry, spicy, and bitter finish.

Pours a hazy dark golden orange color with a one finger white foam head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks and spots of lace left behind.
Very earthy aroma with a soil/vegetal presence as well as some floral and earthy hops. Surprisingly strong malt presence in the nose with some rye, caramel and biscuit. Smells similar to a farmhouse but a bit more tame with more hops.
Medium bodied with a strong earthy hop presence up front that provides dry bitterness that lingers over the malt backbone into a slightly dry finish. Floral and earthy with some pine and soil notes. Vegetal with a funky farmhouse feel countered by a sweet malt backbone which is a touch too strong. Hints of rye, caramel toffee and biscuit. An interesting experiment but it’s somewhere in between a hoppy golden ake, rye pa and a farmhouse ale. A: The beer pours a clear golden straw color with a finger of white head.
S: Smells almost skunky. The aroma is just very...bad. There is an almost burnt rubber aroma to it. Some piney hops, maybe a little bit of rye and bready malt.
T: There is a bit of floral hop character and some piney hop flavor and bitterness. Otherwise, it tastes like it smells: some skunk and burnt rubber. A little bit of citrus peel on the finish.
M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

(Bottle (labelled as "Rich’s Rye") via trade with pantanap, thanks Kan!) Pours hazy amber-gold with a rocky off-white head. Aroma of rye, hops, vanilla. Mouthfeel is a bit pebbly. Flavor is rye and lots of hop bitterness. Rye bitterness + hop bitterness = bitter. Some malty sweetness but really a bit sharp and unpleasant. IMO this should be called a specialty grain, not IPA.
