12oz bottle from the local Meijer. Amber orange pour with an off-white head. Nose has big citrus and pine. Oranges, some other tangy fruit. Sweet malts. Taste is of sweet and tangy fruits, sweet malts, some chewy resin and oranges. Medium bodied with solid carbonation. The body is solid and there is light alcohol presence. Finishes tangy bittersweet. This is a nice solid tangerine/orangey ipa. 13.8

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/24/2016. Pours fairly crystal clear medium orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, honey, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of bright/juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops, grapefruit zest, and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, honey, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, lemon/orange rind, pepper, pine, honey, bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of bright/juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops, grapefruit zest, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance. Moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass; leading to some lingering hop/fruit zest astringency near the end of the glass, but not overwhelming. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, sticky/resinous/rindy, and fairly creamy/grainy balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden, only a light warmth lingering after the finish for 10.4%. Overall this is an outstanding fruited DIPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of bright/juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops, grapefruit zest, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the big ABV, and despite the lingering bitter/astringent flavors. A highly enjoyable offering.

12 oz bottle. i’m always excited to try a shorts IPA since that’s one of the styles they consistently hit, and a special release like this one should be excellent. however, it ends up somewhere in the good side of the middle of the road, with a nice piney and tropical sticky hops nose and an attractive light orange color. But the flavor introduces the dirty secret of IPA bitterness: citrus zest. It offers an unnaturally bitter note that doesn’t mesh well with the rest of the profile. Otherwise this is a well done brew with a nice subdued malt backbone which allows the IIPA character to shine through.

Bottle, drank from a glass, this ale was a dark orange/burnt orange in the glass and the beer had a one finger white cover of bubbles, it left nice spots and small fingers of lacing on the glass, the nose had aromas of pine, resin, lemon and grapefruit hops, the hops had a bit of spice to, pale malt and bread, a little toasted malt, orange fruit, malt and bread sweetness, the flavors were spice, grapefruit, guava citrus and floral hops, some pale malt, a little bread with malt and sugar like sweetness, the finish had a good spice and citrus hop bitterness with a tiny alcohol bite, a little malt trailed afterwards, the mouth feel was towards the full side, there was soft to average carbonation, and it had some creamy feel on the tongue, there was a little warmth on the throat, this drink had a big citrus hop nose and flavor with some malt, a very hoppy drink.

Pours an orange amber with a head that dissipates quickly. Tropical fruits, malt, tangerine and citrus hops are in the aroma. Big malt backbone. Tropical fruits, tangerine, resin and malt in the flavor. Full body. Soft carbonation. Dry finish. Malt and hops are very well balanced. Love it.

Clear copper with a small white head that disappears quickly. Weak but desirable aroma. Taste is well balanced.

Bottle:   Pithy nose, somewhat sweet, citrusy.   Dark orange, a bit of haze, moderate frothy off-white head, nice lacing.   Sweet and citrusy up front, pithy, a bit chewy.   A little acrid on the backside.   Not as clean as I would have liked.   Warming, certainly feel that 9.5%.   Otherwise pretty clean, strong sweet candied citrus peel and pith on the finish.   Wished Shorts did more IIPAs, or at least maybe I need to drink more of those versus their IPAs.   Thanks Kevin!

Bottle... Pours clear and amber with a tiny, creamy, white head. The nose delivers a ton of juicy, fruity, spicy hops. Medium-bodied with tickling carbonation. The flavor is loaded with fresh, juicy, tropical fruits and lots of pithy hop bitterness. Lengthy, grassy, tongue-numbing finish. Bottle courtesy of FlandersNed!

12oz Bottle. Thanks Sean! Wonderful warm, cozy marmalade and citrus zest aroma. Snappy and smooth. I quite like this. It’s definitely one of those Double IPAs that borders on Barleywine, but it has just a very pleasant smooth, sweet fruit and pine quality throughout. Never harsh, never grating, and always prickly with citrus. The malt gets a tiny bit caramelized and reminds me of jams and syrups. Nice stuff.

Bottle: Orange-amber body with good clarity. White, soapy head transcends to a foamy collar & film quickly. Aroma of sticky hops, dank hop oil, juicy grapefruit flesh with a hint of pith-y bitterness, & a substantial crystallized malt sweetness underneath it all. Caramel malt base is present from the first sip, moderately sweet. Notes of strong grapefruit flesh & bitter hop leaves charge in with lighter hints of ashy pines & tangerine peels. The bitterness & grapefruit fade towards the finish, leaving a kiss of sweetness from the malt. A good DIPA, but Hopstache blows this out of the water.
