Bottle. Pours opaque black. Medium tan head. Chocolate aroma. Flavor is chocolate with some bitter roast. I saw that some of the other raters noted that the palate is a bit thin. That is true, but I think it is actually thicker then most of the darker Shorts beers. Good mouthfeel. Overall a better then average beer and one I’d drink again. auerbrau (3203) - Ithaca, New York, USA - FEB 2, 2012
12oz Bottle. Thanks Sean! Chocolate is a fitting title for this beer, in a good way. The aroma has that fermented then roasted brown aroma that’s really enjoyable. Characteristic house yeast and minerals but in. Hmmm. I was really expecting a sweet, dense, rich wheaty beer after that aroma and then notion of "chocolate." The body is incredibly dry, but structured. A slightly metallic twinge and the hint of ash from the roasted malt. I think this could have gone a number of directions and this one speaks of austerity, straightforwardness, and honesty. dimenhetfield (2486) - , Florida, USA - JAN 28, 2012
12oz bottle poured into glass. Dark black pour with fluffy beige head. Aroma has hints of chocolate malt with a touch of light wheat. Flavor is definitely sweeter then I imagined. Nice chocolate lactose flavor happening. Great after dinner drink. markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - JAN 11, 2012
Thanks to the kind soul in the Tampa Crew that shared this one. Pours a medium stout brown with a white head. Nose is chocolate, cocoa, grain, earth, and some cookie. Flavor is similar with a nice mouthfeel- cocoa, chocolate, grain, and some earth make this a nice little stout. Very good. msante79 (2225) - Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA - JAN 6, 2012
12oz bottle. Pours dark brown with one finger tan head. Aromas of chocolate and some light malts. Favor is mostly chocolate, some grains, and some roasted malts. Mouthfeel was smooth and creamy almost like nitro. I was really surprised by this one. Could of drank several.

Dark, opaque black pour. Tan head disappears quickly. Smooth and toasty maltiness. Very good hop balance, approaching slight bitterness while erring on the sweet side. Very subtle chocolate taste. Good porter-like qualities with a light mouthfeel. durhambeer (2500) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - DEC 31, 2011
Yet another bottle shared by emacgee. Black with a tan head. Nose is very much like a schwarzbier to me, grainy, roasty and some chocolate. Burnt caramel. Tastes surprisingly thin. TURDFERGUSON (4058) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - DEC 29, 2011
Shared by emacgee. Nose of toasted grain, roast, light smoke, lightly goaty. Flavor is lightly bitter, some subtle smokiness, ash, dusty, meh. jtclockwork (16581) - , New Jersey, USA - DEC 28, 2011
