On tap at EBF. I think of all the Short’s beers I had that night this was probably my favorite. Very sweet chocolate flavor with hints of caramel. A full glass after dinner would have been perfect. johnnnniee (4411) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 11, 2012
Sampled at EBF Saturday afternoon.
Solid black color with a decent tan head. Smells of sweet chocolate and caramel. Holy sweetness. Taste is pretty much the same a bit sweet but it works fairly well. Thick body light carbonation creamy mouthfeel. Another beer from far away that my sweet tooth wished it could have often. HonusWagner (2223) - Florida, USA - APR 4, 2011
Chocolate, caramel, nuts, although I wish there had been a bit more of the sweet caramel. Looking back, I definitely liked 2010 EBF Shorts way more than 2011 EBF Shorts. Alas. Headbanger (4021) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - NOV 23, 2010
Draft sample at brewery 11/23/10 Pours pitch black no head. Aroma of chocolate and caramel. Taste initially of caramel, chocolate and pecans then comes coffee on the back end. This medium to full bodies brew is again different but still very tasty. deyholla (12253) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - NOV 11, 2010
Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Poured black with a light brown head that dissipated completely. Aroma had sweet chocolate with some caramel and a nice backing pecan note. Flavor brings out the a really nice pecan note more with the same sweet chocolate and just a hint of backing caramel.

Draft. Poured a dark brown color with an average brown fizzy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium to heavy complex toasted chocolate malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted balanced flavor with a medium to heavy toasted dark chocolate finish of moderate duration. This is a solid brew that tastes like the name.. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUL 27, 2010
Draft at Graydon’s Crossing (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a very dark blackish pour, opaque with a frothy light brown head, pretty big that dies to a small film. Aromas are a nice nutty feel, caramel and cocoa, a creamy sweetness with lactose, a touch of roastiness. Sweet yet not overbearing. Initial is medium bodied bodied, a nice even bodied sweetness of toffee, biscuits, cocoa and some decent lactose creamy sweetness. Nutty with a touch of dryness, an interesting nutty and toffee sweetness. Nice, a faint dark fruit feel, really a turtle sundae almost.. Caramel and toffee, light roast moves into cocoa, creamy lactose. A very nice sweet slanted stout, not overbearing, with lingering caramel and nut, cocoa with light bitterness that lingers on the backend. A treat of a sweet stout. Served on draft at Graydon’s Crossing, Grand Rapids, MI. Pours a dark brown color appearing nearly black in the glass. Large brown head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is primarily chocolate with faint roasted malts and faint fruity notes. The taste is cherry-like fruity notes, chocolate and a faint nuttiness. Medium bodied. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - APR 25, 2010
Pours black with tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee, nuts, and toasted bread. Dry, bitter body juxtaposes the sweeter aroma. Chocolate, coffee, alcohol. Thin, fleeting finish BBB63 (6567) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - APR 4, 2010
MiBG Winterfest 2010: Basically opaque with a oily appearance, minimal head nor lace. The aroma has notes of caramel, walnuts, chocolate, coffee, tobacco, alcohol, PNW hops and is very estery. The taste is nutty and malty with some herbal and resiny hop and coffee bitterness. Bready throughout with a slight metallic and fig undertone. The mouth feel is oily and soft. Simply okay and a bit muddled.
