Our Brett Venture series is the exploration of how single strains of Brettanomyces ferment and condition a Saison malt bill. Each Brett Venture will be fermented in and aged in wine barrels with a different Brettanomyces strain to showcase its unique characteristics.

Brett Venture #2 With Lactobacillus uses the same saison malt bill found in Brett Venture #1, but is 100% brett fermented with a strain from Drie Fonteinen and aged in oak barrels for 10 months with Lactobacillus.

750 ml bottle to snifter. Looks good; a cloudy lemon with white head that quickly dissipates into thin lacing. Smells and tastes oaky and funky alongside softer notes of lacto. Mouthfeel is medium-light to medium-bodied and semi-dry. Good, not great.

Bottle thanks to Dustin. Pours a cloudy yellow with small white head. The aroma is strong funk, pineapple, wood, brett. Thin mouth, lemon, funk, oak, nice tartness, juicy, really enjoyed this one.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours milky and yellow with no head. The aroma is a farmhouse swirl of funky old cheese, lactic acid, white bread and lemon zest. Medium-bodied with a 1%-milk mouthfeel and stinging carbonation. The moderately acidic, bready, crackery and lemony flavor is perfectly-balanced and precedes a tongue-numbing, lightly abrasive, bone-dry finish. Yet another world class beer from the fine folks at Perennial and Side Project! Kudos to the ever-generous landhoney for sharing this one!

Bottle. Cloudy yellow color, white head. Aroma of sour peach, citrus. Taste has tart peach, lemon, peppery dust. Nice.

Bottle, generously shared by Dice along with both of the batch 2 versions at a tasting in October. I’m putting my complete notes here for all of them.

1. Brett only. Batch 1: cloudy hazy gold. Offwhite minimal head (only one of the 3 where head remains). Cider, muted taste - flowers, botanical. What I think of as brett isn’t huge ... Muted all around, but totally tasty beer anyway. Medium body, average carbonation. 7/4/7/3/14. 2. Batch 2: pours so gross - gushed the dregs to the top, now it looks like shake shake. Similar to 1 -- more floral, very floral. Mineral, lemon ... But for the most part, pretty muted. 7/2/7/4/14 3. Batch 2 lacto: ... aside from the gushing, this isn’t too different from the other batch 2. Or batch 1 for that matter. 7/4/8/4/15

Bottle thanks Tim. Yellow pour with white head. Nice funky fruit, ert lambic like aromas. Flavors are sour tart, closer to an American sour.

Bottle sample thanks to phaleslu during the post Grand Tasting bottle share in our room. Pours a hazy golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma and flavor have Brett, grass, citrus, some mild tropical fruit notes, pineapple, dry, farmhouse funk, yogurt, lactic notes, wood, decent though I would like to try this again in a different setting. The lacto versions were definitely better.

Bottle at Erics. Pours a hazy body with white lacing. Aroma is super funky lemon-brett character. Mouthfeel is tart and crisp with notes of funky lemon, citrus, peach, melon and lots of brett. Some vanilla as well. Awesome.

UPDATED: MAY 11, 2014 Murky golden pour. Bottle shared with al. Notes are pineapple clauseni, lots of Brett, oak, and peach buttholes. Fuller body with a super murky look. On top of everything coconut and creamy butter. Ill drink anything aged with 3 Font yeast. Cheers
