Sampled at the 2017 Beer Fest. It poured a black color with a tan head. The aroma was of bourbon, chocolate, wood and roast. The taste was similar to the aroma with more bourbon, chocolate, wood, roast, some vanilla and a medium to heavy carbonation with a wood aftertaste. Good stuff.

JAXSON (608) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 26, 2017
Poured as part of a "Derivation flight" with blends 1-7 including Double Barrel (sans blend 5). Thick black, no carbonation. Nose is heavy malt, super sweet, with some faint red berries that weren’t there with the first couple blends. Mouth thick and sweet, of course. Some red berries here (port barrel?). Nicely balanced, I’m thinking some kind of dark chocolate raspberry cake. Still pretty huge and brash though.

[1/28/17] Bottle/Draught at RateBeer Best festival in Santa Rosa. Opaque viscous black. Amazing aroma full of bourbon, chocolate, cookies, caramel, fudge, vanilla, wine, dark fruit notes. Sweet flavor with chocolate, bourbon, dark fruits, vanilla, coconut, some wine. Full thick mouthfeel. Amazing.

joeneugs (6372) - Livermore, California, USA - FEB 9, 2017
Bottle pour at RB Best. It pours black with no head. The aroma has rich coffee, fudge and alcohol. The flavor has some strong vinous wine notes, coffee, wood and rich dark chocolate. Very oily on the palate with mouthwatering wine-like acidity. Very low carbonation. Almost completely still. A real treat.

bytemesis (9235) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - JAN 31, 2017
Bottle sample at RateBeer Best. Pours opaque black, minimal head or lacing. Aroma is heavy bourbon, molasses, chocolate. Flavor is light bitter, fully sweet, kind of like a bourbon chocolate liquor. Medium body. Glad I got a chance to try it, but not overly impressed.

ineedbeer (2257) - Oakland, California, USA - JAN 30, 2017
Poured from a bottle at Ratebeer Best. Aroma has moderate dark fruit notes. Lots of roast and dark chocolate. Light ash and tobacco. Light bourbon and medium light port wine notes. Some light alcohol spice. Pours black with a small, thick, mocha head that recedes to the edges and disappears. No lacing and moderate legs. Flavor is a bit disappointing. Moderate chocolate notes with moderate roast. Some ash and tobacco as well. Some light bourbon and medium light oak notes with light port notes. Some dark fruit and light alcohol spice. Medium bitterness. Mouthfeel is very full bodied and viscous with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a bit of a disappointing beer. The port notes are a bit too strong and conflict with the ashy, roast forward malt profile. Too viscous as well.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2017 From a bottle @RBB2017: pours oily black, opaque with tiny brown head which transforms itself to a ring around the glass. Aroma-flavors: roasted grain, dark malts, molasses, vanillin, huge sherry-like bourbon note...dry, slightly astringent finish. Body is thick, texture velvetly, carbonation is low.
