COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
My Unblended labeling will be single barrel releases of barrels that I find are just too good to blend and offer a unique experience on their own. Barrel #40 is the first barrel in my inventory that I have found to be this way. It started life as a Chardonnay barrel that I filled with a batch of coolship beer (100% spontaneously fermented) that I brewed in the early part of 2013. This was Barrel #40 in my inventory and is now its own, single barrel release.

Bottle, 375 ml, as Unblended #40. Pours hazy golden, small off white head, good lacing. Aroma is oak, lemon, funk, hints of stonefruit, horse blanket, vinous notes. Flavor is light plus tart, light funky, really solid and balanced beer with subtle complexity. Medium body, soft mouthfeel. Excellent.

375 mL bottle . Originally reviewed 7/2/2014. Hazy yellow. Not much of a head, just a few bubbles when I pour it. Settles to nothing. Lots of stone fruits in the nose. Lightly acidic. Woody and white winey. Taste is very woody. Much more lemony. Not as much of the stone fruit flavor. Kinda grassy. Finishes with a yogurty tartness. Well carbonated. Pleasantly sour. It’s good, but I was hoping for a little more complexity.

Pours clear golden with a very small white head. The aroma has oak, mild sourness, blue cheese, yogurt, blueberries, light spice, sweet tarts and some vinegar. It has a medium / light crisp body with light spritzy carbonation. The flavor starts with sharp white wine, sweet tarts, bugginess, oak, vinegar, blackberries, harsh spice and some tangy cheese. The finish has oak, vanilla, spice and quite a pleasing bite. Nice sour ale.

Bottle thanks to Drake. Hazy gold with a small head. Nose is pretty lovely. Grape and general fruit skin. Musty. Lemon peel. Very sharp, acetic flavor. A bit of lemon and sour cream. Buggy wood. Medium body, soft carb.

375 ml bottle. Damn. This is amazing. Sour smarties and sweet tarts. hints of lemon and peach. Super sour and tart, no acidity, clean finish. Like a better version of beat. Best nonfruited sour I’ve ever had.

Bottle thanks to Phil. Pours a hazy yellow gold with small white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong chardonnay, oak, grape. Thin mouthfeel with nice tartness, oak, lingering sourness, funky, complex, very impressive.

INCREDIBLE beer. Seriously outrageous. Pours a nice gold/yellow color with a white head. The flavor is unreal. Perfectly tart, sour, chardonnay, peaches, plums...beyond good. Just GREAT.
