COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An IPA, of course. We’re blending our two approaches to the IPA in this East Meets West IPA. Sierra Nevada’s malt body and profile was blended with the heavy-handed, very late hopping schedule employed by Tree House to create a new, hybrid IPA. Lightly bitter and heavy with citrus-like hop flavor.

Toasted malt, citrus and pine in the aroma. Slightly hazy pale yellow body with a very foamy white head. A bit of a spicy bite in the initial taste like rye followed by a more wheat-like taste and texture. A light taste of lemon and hay follows this. More earthy bitterness as you go which builds slightly but not in any way overwhelming. Light body. Finishes light and dry with a lasting but tame bitterness and citrus peel dryness.

Poured from a 16 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is a cloudy bronze color with a large white head. The aroma is a large dose of fruit with a wee bit of hops. The taste is tropical citrus with a nice hop blend.

A steady pour produces a two finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a copper color with golden highlights that shows a brilliantly clear, bright copper / golden hue when held up to the light. The aroma has a soapy, crystal malt character to it that is a touch nutty. Once I start to dig a grapefruit zest, a touch of tangerine zest, and a touch of tropical fruit like hoppiness become noticeable, but vastly muted compared to what I was expecting.

Solidly bitter with a lingering citrus hoppiness that gets a touch astringent towards the finish. The beer tastes much hoppier than it smells and it has me wonder if the two beers I drank previously could somehow have deadened my nose. Somewhat light bodied, but with a soft viscous mouthfeel, and a prickly, but smooth carbonation; the beer is quite easy drinking. Flavors of guava, kumquat zest, ruby-red grapefruit, tangerine zest, peach nectar, as well as some peppery pine notes, and a lingering herbal spiciness all play a prominent role here. The malt is a bit more subdued than in the nose, but still provides a toasty nuttiness, a caramelized grain note that has hints of sweet-tea, and a touch of English Biscuit like maltiness as well.

The nose is fairly hoppy in the end, but I can’t figure out why it is so muted compared to what it should be, based on the description; the flavor does live up to the hop though. Enjoyable in the end, but a bit of a puzzle due to the nose.

From a can. Pours hazy golden amber with a frothy off white head. Tastes like lemon, grapefruit hops, bready malt, some cracker, and some resin. Light/medium body and carbonation. Smells like resin, lemon, grapefruit hops, and bready malt.

Pint can. Tropical fruit hop aroma with notes of grapefruit citrus, grass and some pine resiny notes. Pours cloudy golden colored with a large tan head that has excellent retention but little lacing. Starts juicy tropical fruit and grapefruit citrus hop flavors. Finishes dry, but quite smooth with some grassy notes as well as a hint of bitter pine resiny hops. Pretty nice East/West hybrid of IPA styles.
