Pours a dark amber/light brown color with a khaki head. Strong vanilla notes right off the bat. There’s definite some whiskey character along with a decent fruitiness, too. Plenty of brown sugar, toffee, and bread as well. The flavor has strong vanilla and wood flavors and plenty of malt sweetness. Heavy on the toffee and toasted bread with a light fruit character. Pouring at the Night of the Barrels at EBF (2011). Pours a clearish brown with a thin beige head. Sweet wood and vanilla on the nose. Lots of malt, wood and bourbon. Long wood notes with some sweetness and a touch of tang.
Tap @ Avery, doing the 10th Annual Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Pours dark brown with a offwhite head. Aroma of malt, yeast, caramel, dark fruit, molasses. Boulder Strong Ale Fest. Cloudy, reddish brown appearance with an off-white head. Dark fruity, grape, plum, fig, a bit spicy, sweet caramel, oaky aroma. At Avery’s 2012 Strong Ale Fest. Murky brownish copper with a thin bubbly light tan head. Very woody aroma with earthy notes of burnt toffee and some light floral hops. Taste is woody, earthy, semi sweet and a little smoky. Kinda sticky at the end, pretty malty.
