4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Not the best single stout I have ever had. That might be a Barrel-aged BORUS, or a Lost Abbey Serpent, or a Mikkeller, or ... but this was very nice. Almost black, little head, some lacing. Strong nose of dark burnt malts and coffee. Moderate palate, moderate intensity. Taste of dark malts and coffee, lightly hopped.
750ml bottle. Dark brown, nearly black pour with a full brown that eventually fades to a persistent cap. Great lacing. Rich aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, dark roast malt. The flavors are complex like the nose, with added raisins, molasses, burnt brown sugar, chicory, campfire. Lots going on here. Wonderful full body and lingering sweet roasty finish. Not really noticing the alcohol. Excellent beer, too bad not much chance of scoring another one. mR_fr0g (13500) - Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - MAY 28, 2017

2010 drinken in 2016. APPEARANCE- extremely black slight head and lacing is minimal.
NOSE- deep rich notes, highlighting fig notes. slightly boozy.
FLAVOR- slightly bitter. Suprising considering the way it looks and smells. I was encouraged to open it but it seems like it was opened a little too late in its aging life, or perhaps a little too early to really change in character. I’m really intrigued by it.

Black brew is completely opaque until held to a light and a bit of deep brown shows near the stem of the goblet... Dark brown head.. okay retention and lacing.
Nose is simple yet very forthright in everything expected from a West Coast Impy Stout.... very roasty... some dark fruits that make me think of Bing Cherries... and a blast of dry cocoa.
Flavor is surprisingly dry throughout.. roasty dark malts... some cocoa combines with espresso... more char than I normally like, but I appreciate in this setting.... very dry on the finish.
Expected medium body with an abundant carbonation that seems on the high side for me. The_Osprey (9140) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 16, 2016
Bottle share at Cotteridge II as Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Fritz & Ken’s Ale. Many thanks to The Kernel via Scopey. Opaque black, no real head. Aroma is fruity and hoppy, liquorice, floral. Body is smooth, soft carbonation. Taste is again very hop-forward – floral, salty, tangy, pine, smooth coffee, roast malt and a pretty dry finish. Very nice.
