Bottle I was lucky enough to score at the Sierra Nevada gift shop. Starts off with a sweet molasses nose and some fireplace smoke. Nearly opaque with a deep brown/black body that only shows some ruby color at the edges of the glass. A surprisingly thick and enthusiastic medium brown head that hangs around to the very end. Immediate charred malt and smoke flavors hit the tongue that approach a Rauchbier smokiness but donít cross into the bacon range. The sweetness that seemed apparent in the aroma isnít nearly as obvious in the taste. Thereís just barely enough molasses and dark chocolate sweetness to balance the smoky char and dark roasted coffee bitterness. Speaking of bitterness, there seems to be a pretty good hop component present that adds an earthy, slightly vegetal component, but thereís so many heavy flavors here itís hard to distinguish whatís what. The sweetness does seem to build a bit towards the end and as you drink it, leaving a lightly sweet milk/dark chocolate flavor rattling around in your mouth. In another surprising turn, this is actually fairly easy to drink and not palate wrecking. Another nice addition to the Audition line.
"750 bottle and cork at Sierra Nevada. Renamed Audition (maybe pre-production?). Pours a near black with khaki head. smells great...malted chocolate, a hint of coffee, licorice, and a decent dose of smoke. Smooth medium-full bodied. Taste is roast, chocolate, smoke in the finish, and a bit of anise and coffee. Well rounded and delicious!" jackl (8029) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - AUG 5, 2014

Bottle shared by the Sierra Nevada rep at the RBWG Grand Tasting. Pours a deep brown with a medium beige head that settles into a lasting ring. Notes of smoke, brown sugar, chocolate, nuts, and toast - fairly subtle overall. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a roasty, smoky mouthfeel. Very nice smoked porter. deyholla (11505) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 16, 2014
