Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This yearin honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew were releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the maltwith rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it wont be around for long.

Bottle. Murky dark copper brown. Sweet toffee, dark fruits, some wood and slight sherry notes in the aroma. Barrel shows up more in the flavor, woody, sherry, dark fruit, vanilla and bourbon on the back end. Medium To thicker and slick body.

Ive been away from trying new beers for a little while, and start off again with Sierra Nevadas Bigfoot ale, was a great choice. The appearance reminded me of a cream soda (my perspective influenced by my wifes craving for the soda). The aroma is of an oak whiskey barrel and the flavor is complex with sweet smoky flavor. I love this beer.

4/VII/15 - 75cl bottle from a trade, shared @ RBBSG IV - BB: n/a (2015-873) Thanks to ??? for the trade!

Clear red brown beer, small creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: chlorine, sweet malts, some chocolate, spicy notes, caramel, bit of vanilla. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: spicy, quite some cinnamon (is this still from the Hardywood???), sweet, caramel, vanilla, bourbon, little bitter.

(Bottle 750ml $15 from Costco). Ruby color with 2 finger creamy off white head. Aroma is mostly sweet whisky. Taste is whiskey with quite a noticeable alcohol burn. I usually like that, but this seems either too much or something. Then in the end there was some bitterness, but it had a metallic taste. Not a fan of this beer.

75cl bottle @ Shrewsbury Beer Share, June 15, brought back from the US of A by Jeremy. Many thanks. Pours dark amber with off-white head. Taste brings forth a pine needles smoothie with a huge Kentucky bourbon influence. Oaky with sharp alcohol notes. Although Im not massively into whisky this was still a complex and captivating beer that I doubt Ill see again.

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2015 On tap at the brewery taproom in NC. Beautiful clear copies colored body is topped by a surprisingly durable head. This has a bit more input from the barrel aging than I prefer. The barleywine base is not completely masked but is dominated. Feel: Too much heat in the feel; this would certainly benefit from some aging.

Review #1000--had this in the basement 5 months. alcohol, grapes, toffee, resin are the aromas.cake with chocolate buttercream is my first tastechocolate, butterfat, sugar (rounding out to caramel, a bitterness that isnt citrus or resin but is partially alcohol, oak and a hint of vanilla. Clear red brown with smooth tan head. The mouth is happy to have this beer inside, however briefly. Balanced, diverse and mighty.

Sampled from bottle @ RBBSG 2015. Clear red color, small off-white head. Smell and taste malts, sweetish, firm bitter, a hint of dark fruits and quite heavy on the alcohol. Medium body, suitable and quite suitable carbonation.

Bottle at RBBSG, thanks for sharing Tderoeck. Bourbon, boozy, vanilla, oak, hops, nice but maybe a tad too much.
