COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

Pours a deep copper color with a foamy off white head. Notes of vanilla, whiskey, dark brown sugar, figs, and smoke. Not much of the original bigfoot character remains.

Bottle. The look is reddish, beige head, with a clear look. The smell is whiskey, wood, alcohol, brown sugar, fruitcake, rich, and interesting. The taste is fruity, alcohol, sugar, wood, burnt, and good.

Bottle. Dark clear amber. Sweet, raisin and caramel malt nose. Syrupy body. Mild hop tempered by syrupy, yet mild, raisin. Not a fan of the style usually, but barrel aging makes this more appealing.

Big sweet malt aroma up front, raisin, prune and a background of pine resin with a touch of bread yeast-a very gentle barrel toffee is on the surface. Appears deep copper, not much foam or lace. Sweet toffee stands out up front in the taste followed by bitter red wine oak barrel tannins balancing thd sweetness, pine resin comes to the forefront as the oak tannins fade away. Palate is a little oily, could use a bit more carbonation. Overall, good, but it feels like it needs something to brighten it up.

Corked and caged bottle shared with three friends at the June 2015 Shrewsbury Bottle Exchange Meeting. I had brought this back from California for such an event. Deep amber/brown body, off-white head. Serious stuff this: rich, warm, smooth, and that’s just the aroma which delights your nasal senses with malty molasses, vanilla and wood like esters all rolled up in an alcohol bundle waiting to be lit. The taste explodes in the mouth with those same main ideas from the nose: malts, vanilla and woody, with an alcohol burn. Yet it has a silkiness in the robust and strong flavours which calms everything: mellow it is not, but it certainly is mature and ripe. A lovely beer to share with like minded people.

Bottled from 2015. Color is dark copper and a thin off white head with fine texture. Aroma is coconut, vanilla extract, hot bourbon and spiced caramel. Very nice. Flavor is robust with strong bourbon throughout with sweet caramel malt underneath. Lasting sweetness and prolonged notes of nutmeg cinnamon and maple. Pretty damn intense alcohol heat. 750ml c&c bottle from Xroads. Poured a reddish/amber body with a smaller foamy light beige head foamy. Aroma is sort of hot, alcohol, molasses, caramel, vanilla extract, some fig and raisins. Flavor is the same. Body is full with medium to stronger carbonation and a lingering heat on the finish. Meh a bit hit still.

Bottle. Cannot believe I have not had this bad boy before. Love the Big Foot. The barrel aging does wonders. The vanilla notes smooth it out but the aging doesn’t reduce the wonderful hop profile. Pours a orange brown haze with light beige head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, earthiness, bread, vanilla and booze. Sweet citrusy caramel taste with nice hop hit and smooth creamy vanilla on the backend. Excellent beer. Might be my favorite Bwine because of the complexity.
