Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

Tried at Craft Beer Market YEG. Sierra Nevada tap takeover Nov 18. The best barley wine I have tasted. Has a nice hoppy, boozy, wine flavour. The barrell aging adds a ton of complexity. Normally not a BW fan but this is drinkable. Would get again.

750mL bottle pours a murky amber/brown with a large khaki head. Caramel and toffee aroma, with vanilla and oak. Nice full flavor yet approachable bourbon vanilla and oak flavors, with caramel and toffee malts, raisins, steady bitterness, and light hop spice. It’s complexity lies in its straight forward simplicity, the individual favors remain simple with a complex balance. Really nice!

GABF 2015. Dark copper color. extremely sweet, tons of malt and brown sugar. A little whiskey, but I’m not sure what kind, and it doesn’t hurt the beer at all. Extremely sweet to the point I can’t imagine drinking a full glass, and certainly not a 750. good flavor anyway, and intense beer for sharing.

Pours deep hazy brown with an eggshell head. Aroma is full of vanilla and notes of bourbon. Full bodied, finishes sweet and malty.

hazy amber, thin cream ring. Heavy heat in nose, light wood, heavy booze. Oxidized malt, light chocolate and gum, heavy bitterness through the end. Total diabetes tooth decay

Tap at hopcat, Aroma is vanilla, sweet fruits, and bourbon. Taste is fairly boozy and it finishes with a ton of heat. Flavors of bourbon, sweet fruits and oak get overpowered by the booze, good... just wish it was less boozy

750 C&C Dark toffee amber color. Dark leather head. Sticky lacing and a lot of AVB legs. Nose is a lot of barrel, even for about 2 years old now. Lots of whisky and oak. Underneath is figs, caramel, brown sugar, and dark fruits. Still a lot of booze in the nose. Taste is whisky up front and then dark fruits, brown sugar, and figs. Big, slow sipper. A tad bit still too hot but quite good.

Bottle from Craft Beer Cellar. Poured into a Snifter, poured a deep amber-brown, with a 1cm beige head that lasted a good long while. This is only the 3rd or 4th Barleywine I’ve had, so comparisons are hard. Hops and rich, sweet malts dominate the flavour profile, with brown sugar, dark dried fruit and spice showing up. Lots of alcohol warmth. Oak is there, but not as strong as I expected. A good strong beer to enjoy now that the weather’s turning colder - certainly not a summer sipper.
