COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

750 ml cork and cage bottle from GM Liquors. Nose is light bourbon and vanilla combined with hints of golden raisins and bubblegum. Clear rust red with a small beige head. Flavor is lightly bitter, bourbon, and lots of vanilla. Nice and smooth.

Draft into a snifter at Brouwer's. Brown color with ruby highlights and a khaki ring. Syrupy sweet and boozy aroma with a hint of wood and vanilla. Mellow flavor of vanilla, tobacco and molasses, with a hint of hop bitterness in the finish. Well done to make it drinkable and not over-the-top. No hint of the ABV at all. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Butters (4059) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAR 23, 2013
Sampled at the Raleigh Rare and Vintage Festival 2013. Clearish brown amber pour with small offwhite head. Distinctly hoppy flavor with a massive amount of american hop bitterness. I was really surprised how much the hops stuck around after 2 years! It was verging on being almost too boozy. Some age should treat this quite nicely, but as it was, I didn’t really care for it.

TURDFERGUSON (4058) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JAN 27, 2013
Tap at rrbf. Thanks Aubrey! Nose is light bourbon, and wood, lots of toffee sweetness, pine, vanilla, dark fruits. Flavor is relatively sweet, vanilla, brown sugar, oak, booze, and light pine. A bit too much but a solid sipper.

2014. 11.9% . clear red with medium sized, stable, cream colored head. dusty oak, vanilla, butterscotch aroma. flavors of caramel, butter, vanilla, barrel, peachy fruits, butterscotch. complex flavors. great medium finish with medium body. the usual fresh, sharp hops of ’regular bigfoot’ have mostly diminished already when the beer hits the market. it drinks great now and will be better later, though its hard to imagine this beer improving. this should be the hottest cellarable beer of the year! i only wish i saved some of those 30th anniversary beers from a few years ago.

Headbanger (3999) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - FEB 28, 2013
750ml bottle 2/28/13 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-42° in snifter-Pours a murky brown with a small off white head. Aroma of sugars, malt, whisky, caramel, and toffee. Taste of dried fruit, whisky, oak, vanilla, caramel, toffee, and some alcohol. This full bodied brew is well balanced and is down right tasty. Great brew.

Brown, small tan head.Big woody alcoholic nose.Very woody palate, far too boozy, oddly spicy. Not a fan !!

Thanks to nate321 for this one! Pours a lightly veiled caramel looking with not much head or lacing. Nose is of buttery caramel and bourbon, sugary to the extreme. Slight hops and wood. Taste is of caramel and sweet but not cloying because it is balanced by a healthy (medium-high) dose of bitterness. Alcohol shows quite a bit and mouthfeel is sticky, a real barleywine. Really nice but not necessarily an improvement to the already excellent SN Bigfoot.
