COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins. Grab this elusive beast while you can, because it won’t be around for long.

Etched glass bottle. Pours orange amber with off white head. Nose and taste of bourbon, oak, orange candy, dark fruit, sticky caramel and molasses. Full body.

Copper colored pour with a small khaki head. The nose is full of caramel, brown sugar, whiskey, and vanilla. Hints of coconut, nice raisin fruitiness, alcohol, and plenty of oak. The flavor is a bit more hot than expected, but very nice otherwise. Big vanilla and whiskey notes to go along with the prominent caramel and brown sugar sweetness. Raisin, perhaps a hint of date, oak, and some piny hops.

Sampled from bottle @ RBBSG 2015. Clear red color, small off-white head. Smell and taste malts, sweetish, firm bitter, a hint of dark fruits and quite heavy on the alcohol. Medium body, suitable and quite suitable carbonation.

Bottle - Oaky, malty, red wine and hops. Clear amber, rich but thin white head. If only it tasted half as good as it smelled. Alcohol, plum and some mild earthy hop characteristics. The finish is alcohol and no nice fruit or hops.

750 c&c from the Arden BevMo in Sacramento, CA. 2013 Expedition. Pours a very dark, ruddy copper with a decent creamy/fizzy beige head. Aroma that seems to have alcohol along with brown sugar. Full bodied. There is a non-burning alcohol flavor - could be residual whiskey flavor messing with me. Burnt coconut and dark fruit seem to be appropriate. It’s not dry, but it’s not sticky. The vanilla/wood aspects are firm. Brown sugar is solid. The wood provides a certain astringency. I’m really curious about the barrel. SN isn’t particular about barrels - most are bourbon, but they do use Tennesse Whiskey and rye barrels. For me this isn’t heavy bourbon. Or even light. It is good. It is bitter. Nice break from BA impy stouts!

Bottle shared by Kenny at Bruce’s new place. It pours deep amber with a medium yellow-white head. The nose is wood, earth, toffee, honeycomb, vanilla, coconut and marshmallow. The taste is smooth, woody, earth, toast, bourbon, alcohol warmth, dried fruit, some astringency, vanilla and coconut with a dry, warming finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Perhaps a touch hot, but rather nice

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy brown with small off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is candy sugar, oak, and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with rich malt and candy sugar with boozey finish. Very impressive.

750 ml corked and caged bottle poured a clear reddish amber with a lingering ring of amber foam. Aromas of bourbon, oak,carmel, toffee, fruittiness and light sherry. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of bourbon, oak, carmel, toffee, sherry, dark fruit and light vanilla with a smooth dry lingering oak finish.

[2/14/15] Draught at Sierra Nevada Torpedo Room in Berkeley. Nice clear reddish amber. Aroma of malt, piney hops, cookies, wood and vanilla. Sweet flavor with malt, caramel, a cookie hint, piney hops, wood, vanilla, some booziness and a bitter finish. Rounded mouthfeel.

Tap sample. Poured dark copper color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruit, toasted malt, bourbon alcohol and wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy dark fruit bourbon vanilla sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a complex solid beer.
