Pours a medium-dark copper color with a thin tan head. Smells like toffee and vanilla. taste is sweet and creamy with just a hint of hoppy bitterness to pull it back from being cloying. Mouthfeel is sticky and thick, but I don’t feel like I’m gonna choke on it or anything. This beer. This fucking beer right here. Good stuff. Very good. Bought about a year ago in Chicago from West Lake Liquors. While opening, the cork had a nice pop propelling about 6 feet. The aroma was rich caramel vanilla brown sugar and whiskey. The taste followed suit along with a relatively strong alcohol presence. This is a sipper. Palate was good with just the right amount of carbonation. Overall a damn good Barleywine. Dark copper, thick lasting head, and nice lace.
Aroma is brown sugar, toffee, whiskey, hops are there, but muted.
Flavor is burnt sugar, whiskey, vanilla, spicy hops, and oak.
Barrel aging definitely toned down the hops, and added a subtle sweetness from the whiskey.
Whiskey and oak tannin build as it warms. Definitely a sipper, as it changes in the glass. This would pair well with A Fuente Hemingway, Brickhouse, or Montecristo white label cigars. Maybe even Rocky Patel Edge corojo.
Everything about the barrel-aged variety of Bigfoot is, in fact, Big. The body is a gloriously dark shade of brown with a huge head (incredible lacing, too, by the way). Aroma of bourbon, oak, dark fruit, and rich malt. Flavor is complex. Toffee, plum, prune, raisin, whiskey, rose hip. Bigfoot likes to be warm before it unveils its vanilla and toasted marshmallow flavors. If you’re going to take on this beast, be advised: words like full-bodied and warm don’t adequately describe this beer. I could only do this beer in sips. With the high ABV, it sure sings one hell of a lullaby. I slept like the dead after this beer. This is a brew for special occasions and small quantities. Deep copper pour, attractive long lasting off white silky and thin head. Dominant aroma are of oak, whiskey with hops playing in the background. Interesting flavor, does not remind me much of the regular bigfoot. I do get brown sugar and raisin flavors. Hops seem more subdued than the non barrel aged variant. A well crafted brew on the whole. ABV is well masked. Smoother palate than the regular beer. If this wasn’t pricey, I’d be buying this more often for sure.

Bottle from Craft Beer Cellar. Poured into a Snifter, poured a deep amber-brown, with a 1cm beige head that lasted a good long while. This is only the 3rd or 4th Barleywine I’ve had, so comparisons are hard. Hops and rich, sweet malts dominate the flavour profile, with brown sugar, dark dried fruit and spice showing up. Lots of alcohol warmth. Oak is there, but not as strong as I expected. A good strong beer to enjoy now that the weather’s turning colder - certainly not a summer sipper. At SWBF 2016. Pours caramel with a low white head. Aromas of caramel, bourbon, oak, butterscotch, figs, dates, raisins, plums. Holy fuck that aroma! Taste is loads of caramel and candied fruit with prominent toasted oak notes. Mouthfeel is smooth and a bit oily with moderate carbonation. Bottle. A beast is an apt description: big, hairy, and mean. Clear dark red amber with a thin fluffy short lived off white head. Aroma of pine, caramel, nugget, bourbon, vanilla and musty oak with some cereal grain notes and alcohol present. Thick chewy resiny palate. Tastes of raisins, dates, bourbon, cereal grain, light citrus fruits, caramel, subtle toasted coconut from the wood on the back end and a surprisingly bitter and dry finish with some earthy oaky vanilla character. Beware this year’s bigfoot, friends. Pours a nice rich amber/copper with a small head that drifts out like the rings of Saturn. The harrowing howl of the hairy cryptic is heard in the distance as you bring the glass to your nose. You nervously sniff as the beast approaches. Vanilla, caramel, bourbon, raisins/prunes, and a hint of that booziness. You hear rustling in the trees as the creature gets nearer. You quaff. "Holy shit," you say, as you take in the complexities: lingering caramelized sugars, massive tannins and oak, more raisins, figs, etc., hop bitterness resting on the tongue and giving way to a kind of woody destruction with a hint of honey, a winter-friendly alcohol burn trickling down your gullet as the Bigfoot raises its paw and strikes you down for good. Your campfire smolders as the creature wanders off. You’re dead, but smiling.
