(draft @ Tap and Mallet - Rochester, NY) Dark black pour with a thick tan head. Big sweet bourbon aroma with lots of roasted malts and vanilla mixed in. Bourbon and various spices begin the flavor and give way to a sweet maple, toffee and raisin note. Vanilla comes in a little more in the middle with a light bourbon and roasted malt aftertaste. Very warming. HonusWagner (2209) - Florida, USA - MAR 23, 2011
Lacks subtlety but is still a pretty OK bourbon barrel strong ale. Extremely heavy on the bourbon in the front, very sweet, but lends way to some potentially interesting sweet coconut flavors on the finish. Didn’t really stand out from the crowd though at NotB. Appearance : Deep black with a small head.
Aroma : Lors of bourbon, light hops and light chocolate.
Taste : Bourbon and spices. finish has notes of roasted malt, bourbon and hops. Some spices too.
Overall : Nose is pretty much all bourbon. Taste is a bit more balanced. Good stuff.
My star of NotB.
Pour was Black with a brown head, looks thick and smooth. Smell is sweet vanilla bourbon, full chocolate malts, rich dark fruits blended together in a mouthwatering balance. Taste is also balanced bourbon and rich malt. Sweet and full and rich without that thick sugary syrupy feel that would make us want to wash some other brews down with water. No, just want to wash this one down w more BA LL! Love this brew. deyholla (11914) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAR 14, 2011
Sampled from the tap at NotB. Poured a near black with brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a nice bourbon note with dark grains, nuts, vanilla caramel and a hint of dark fruits. Flavor was sweet with dark grains, vanilla, nuttiness, and a hint of dark fruits with a sweet bourbon finish.

5 ounce sample on tap at Rubicon in Sacramento. The aroma on this is very bourbony with a light sweetness present. Somewhat fruity, too. Very pleasant and aromatic. Mildly transparent mahogany body with virtually no head present. Starts sweet and fruity with lots of bourbon character. Very fruity with pitted fruits (raisins/plums/figs) in the middle. There are some woody barrel characteristics late, and it has enough dryness to balance the fruity sweetness. Nice! This is the closest thing I have had to Angel’s Share. A deep dark stout with no head. In aroma, nice smooth oaked chocolate, light vanilla, woody and smooth. In mouth, a smooth chocolate with oily molasses, vanilla beans, oaken notes, light iodine, quite nice. On tap at Brewvival, Feb. 26 2011. bhensonb (15520) - Woodland, California, USA - MAR 2, 2011
Tap at the Rubicon. Pours very dark brown/black with a beige smear. Smells like dark fruit. Full bodied. Flavor is rather prune/Dr. Pepper with some moderate hop. Feels slickish, not sticky. There is a nice touch of bourbon/vanilla, and a light oak astringency. It is very good. mixmasterob (1058) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - FEB 28, 2011
Sampled a few times @ Brewvival. Dark brown pour with a small beige head. Aroma was gorgeous. A nice mix of sweet malt and bourbon, light wood. Very nice. Light bourbon throughout mixed with rich malt flavors and of course a decent hop presence made for a tasty brew. Mouthfeel was somewhat light. Dry finish. Great stuff. Tapped keg @ Monk’s Kettle in SF for SF Beer Week. Poured a very dark body with medium head. Aroma notes of a tawny port, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, sweet malts at excellence. Taste is a creamy smooth with a tan colored head. One of a kind, for the limited release it is, you should feel privileged to try this beer. Truly excellent, def try it if you can!!! A top beer in my view you need to try!
