Tap at the Rubicon. Pours very dark brown/black with a beige smear. Smells like dark fruit. Full bodied. Flavor is rather prune/Dr. Pepper with some moderate hop. Feels slickish, not sticky. There is a nice touch of bourbon/vanilla, and a light oak astringency. It is very good. Lubiere (14133) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 4, 2011

On tap at Rattle n Hum during their Sierra Nevada event. Pours a just clear brown with a thin beige head. Sweet raisins and malt on the nose, plum, prune and sweet vanilla with some backing roast. Spicy vanilla, ice cream notes. Nice and smooth. Quite balanced. Pretty nice. Some menthol notes show up much later. slowrunner77 (12581) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 2, 2014
this was the runaway winner at the local Sierra Nevada 30th AV Celebration. It outclasses all 4 in the AV line, as well as many other SN beers, and for my taste, pushes the Old Ale as THE best Sierra Nevada beer ever made. Hmmm...I wonder if Dogfish will bottle or tinker with this beer. Anyway, the barreling covered up a lot of the birch syrup aspect of the other beer, but left some sweetness and roasty malts and a touch of hops. it smells boozy...tastes so a little too, but is not hot. super flavor, and very smooth. i got a growler of this chillin in the fridge too!!! the LAST growler!" deyholla (12021) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAR 14, 2011
Sampled from the tap at NotB. Poured a near black with brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a nice bourbon note with dark grains, nuts, vanilla caramel and a hint of dark fruits. Flavor was sweet with dark grains, vanilla, nuttiness, and a hint of dark fruits with a sweet bourbon finish. marcus (10565) - Sacramento, California, USA - NOV 14, 2010

Tap at CK thanks to argo0. Pours clear ruby with weak head formation. Nose is mega rich bourbon, buttery, toasted coconut, spicy orange peel. Really on the mark. Taste is rich and silky, no wood tannins, toasted coconut and buttercream. Mega rich. Could pass for boss bottle of Firestone Walker Abacus/Sucaba. Very good. About as good as ASA’s get.
