Tapped keg @ Monk’s Kettle in SF for SF Beer Week. Poured a very dark body with medium head. Aroma notes of a tawny port, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, sweet malts at excellence. Taste is a creamy smooth with a tan colored head. One of a kind, for the limited release it is, you should feel privileged to try this beer. Truly excellent, def try it if you can!!! On tap at churchkey. aroma is bourbon bourbon bourbon. Flavor is great, rich, stout and American strong at once. This is a special beer.

sample from the tap @ GABF on 9/18/10. black pour with tan head. really nice bourbon nose - not over the top like some others - it’s just right. medium body with layers of chocolate, dark fruits, maple, bourbon, vanilla and light oak. sweet finish with subtle bourbon barrels. very well balanced, very drinkable barrel aged beer. outstanding - I could drink this all day. 0o9i (439) - Reno, Nevada, USA - NOV 15, 2010
UPDATED: DEC 4, 2010 Tap @ Sierra Taphouse. Dark body, brown with Ruby, black in the glass, opaque, taupe head, creamy texture. Lots of vanilla, buttery, dark fruits, warmly alcoholic like a fine brandy, very rich and awesomely quaffable. Fullish body, creamy carbonation for a soft and velvety palate, balanced wet/dry, a touch sticky. Flavor is lightly sweet front, balanced middle with woody hops, alcoholic warmth finishing with pine/grapefruit rind and undertones of Bourbon and vanilla.

Pour was Black with a brown head, looks thick and smooth. Smell is sweet vanilla bourbon, full chocolate malts, rich dark fruits blended together in a mouthwatering balance. Taste is also balanced bourbon and rich malt. Sweet and full and rich without that thick sugary syrupy feel that would make us want to wash some other brews down with water. this was the runaway winner at the local Sierra Nevada 30th AV Celebration. It outclasses all 4 in the AV line, as well as many other SN beers, and for my taste, pushes the Old Ale as THE best Sierra Nevada beer ever made. Hmmm...I wonder if Dogfish will bottle or tinker with this beer. Anyway, the barreling covered up a lot of the birch syrup aspect of the other beer, but left some sweetness and roasty malts and a touch of hops. it smells boozy...tastes so a little too, but is not hot. super flavor, and very smooth. i got a growler of this chillin in the fridge too!!! the LAST growler!" Sampled side by side with the regular version. Dark near black pour with minimal ring of tan head. Cheery and raisin and anise and much more complex and sweeter than the base beer. On tap at City Beer in SF. Dark brown almost no head. Vanilla, oak, bourbon, sweet (assume the maple syrup), some burnt or caramelized malts. Good carbonation (mild), medium bodied, sweet from the vanilla, nice finish - emphasis on the bourbon and some booze/bite. Black opaque with a bit of tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, smoke, coffee, some brown sugar that comes out more as the beer warms. Thick and sweet with some dark fruit on the palate, along with some woody/oaky notes and a hint of a rum/alcohol taste on the palate but no burn. Very smooth, nice long finish. Definitely one of the highlights of the tasting.
