COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Barrel-Aged Narwhal is our deliciously dark Imperial Stout aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Barrel aging is a strange science; it mellows some characteristics of the original beer while intensifying others. Narwhal’s aggressive roastiness has calmed, but the rich, chocolate-like malt backbone is brought to the fore. Black as midnight, this intense stout is complex with notes of cocoa and espresso balanced with hints of vanilla and toasted coconut from the oak casks. Nearly as rare as it’s nautical namesake, try Barrel-Aged Narwhal while you can because like the creature itself, it will soon dive into the depths and leave nary a trace behind.

Had this beer at the sierra nevada brewery with my brother and brother in law! Smells of bourbon and chocolate. Dark black pour with a brown head. Taste is chocolatey with a bourbon finish. This is a great beer!

Flaska från SB. Vintage 2015. Kolsvart med smak och doft av choklad, vanilj, bourbon, espresso, kladdkaka, marsipan, trä, kokos och likörpralin. Maffig, bra balans, god sötma, rund och len, fin beska. Ett extra allt öl!

750ml bottle poured at home.

Bottle is probably aged 2 years (or close to it).

Hints of coconut aroma

Taste is very smooth with a slight alcohol burn, but well hidden for a 12.9% beer

I almost thought it would have tasted better, but a solid beer

Bottle Share: 2015 Release. Super boozy in the aroma. This could even last for a few more years. Chocolate abounds. Great all around stout, but not up there with good friends like the Abyss.

Bottle from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Black and rich looking. A tan head is not big. Aroma is bourbon and vanilla with some wood. Huge rich malts. Flavor begins with earth and lighter bourbon. Ron mentions anise and I also get that. Dark fruit includes raisins. Coconut is light. A hint of citrus. Dark milk chocolate is tasted, and a little soy, too. I like that the bourbon does not overpower. I do not taste alcohol at all, but sure do feel it! This deserves to be in the upper 1/3 of the style.

750ml bottle solo’d @ Rochelle’s. 2014 Vintage.
Pours an opaque black with a fairly dense brown head. Nose is vanilla, chocolate, and bourbon. Flavour is just delicious and complex. There is ample barrel and bourbon characteristics, with a subtle chocolate and vanilla. It’s rich and smooth. Quite happy to have greedily solo’d this to myself.

Poured from 750 ml corked bottle. Pours a deep dark blackness. The aroma hits you with heavenly molasses and coffee. The mouthfeel is rich and satisfying, not too thick. Flavor is big and rocks your taste buds with roasty malt, brown sugar, and molasses and coffee. The party goes on and on gradually subsiding wth echos of that molasses that just won’t quit. Smooth and satisfying. Nice warmth of alcohol throughout the experience.
